GPS with video inputs

Other then the Standard Horizon, anyone know of any GPS's with video inputs to add cameras?

racesdad 05-30-2007 12:29 AM

The best units I have seen are the Ray Marine. There E series units combine GPS Chart Plotter, Radar, Camera's around the vessel, TV, and also guage monitering. They are awsome machines. I have one myself...

Just did a garmin on a sonic. 2 cameras in the engine room. it was like a 10" screen and you could split the screen , worked out nice. Have the box at the shop but forget the # now though I know it was last years model. Harness was included for video inputs. I just saw the new garmins with the 3d chart plot and weather overlay. Incredable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guidance was easy to set up.

I just installed a Garmin 3210c on my Bertram. It's an awsome unit with multiple video connections and live XM nexrad weather.

vagrant 05-30-2007 08:03 AM

I use Northstar 6000I You can also hook your dvd player and use it for movies:D

I've got the Northstar 6000i with the Smartcraft interface. It has video inputs and split screen.

What cameras do you use with these?

C_Spray 05-30-2007 01:57 PM

I'm planning an upgrade to a Garmin 4212 with the weather overlay and video inputs (DVD) soon. Can't see the extra $$ for the touch-screen 5212. I've owned a 2010C for four years and love it. Garmins are very intuitive to learn and use.

What cameras work best in the engine compartment...kind of dark while running. What spec's to do you recommend?

Gino I have the Northstar 6000i which is also the only gauges that I have and a Garmin 3210 for GPS and DVD playback as well as camera viewing. They are pretty close in $$, I do think the Northstar has better color. They are both great.

Hey Active do you have the xm weather overlay on yours? I know 7000I has that, was not sure if you could install on the 6000i. I bought mine 3yrs ago and need to do a software update.

Thanks

David

I don't have the cameras yet. I'm just starting to shop around. The system is on my 50' Bertram. I have two little kids & I want to be able to see the whole cockpit and the salon so I know where everyone is. I'll also put one in the engine room.

The Northstar is by far the best, and the Furuno Nav Net system is really clear as well, we have that on our boat. Camera's, Video, Radar, Depth Sounder / Fish Finder, Chart Plotter & Weather Map.

kind of off topic but does anyone know of a color GPS that has depth contouring images available for around $5-600? The area i boat in is all rocks and crisscrossing channels so its needed.

Has anybody tried the new Ray Marine CAM50 camera? I just found this online for less than $200. It seems like this compact unit could be the low cost camera for below deck or the engine compartment.
Is there any reason this camera wouldn't work in any GPS with the NTSC connection? Where can you get a 30' video cable?

You can use Cat 5 with vellums attached to the ends for connection

That is friggen beatiful. Unfortunatly the dash in the new mti can't accomadate anything even close to that! I would have to remove every gauge on the port side to make that work. If I was startig from scratch that would be the way to go. Can the northstar gauge mode work with any engines or just the Mercs with smart craft?

Thanks for the compliment  Mine is the 12" model but they make a 6.5" 8.5" 10.5" 12" and a 15". I think it will only work with the Merc. setup. When i built the boat Pat had to order twin wiring harnesses on each motor to set it all up.
