GGB mufflers on N/A motors

I put a pair of mufflers on my naturally aspirated 600cu in. 750/hp motors and it wiped 15mph off my top speed ! Is the fact that these motors are N/A and need to breath the issue? I figured i'd lose a few mph but nowhere near this much. As you can figure the mufflers are coming OUT tomorrow. Anybody else have any experience with this? BTW they are Stellings dry exhaust.

articfriends 06-21-2007 01:39 AM

Wow:eek: ,I had exactly the opposite experience. My boat goes no faster or slower with them on (5" tails on stainless marine 3's with water added right at tip as it enters the muffler),Smitty

wildthing357 06-21-2007 06:00 AM

Let me know if you are going sell them. I lost one and have been looking for some for sale. I only lost 3 mph with mine.

Tazz 06-21-2007 01:01 PM

Did you try GGB ? 705-382-5275

f311fr1 06-21-2007 05:28 PM

I had no loss or gain with mine on a 600 CU IN EFI N/A. I love them. Running CMI's on the engines.

Who's motors do you have.:D

Vinny P 06-21-2007 08:59 PM

I have GGB extremes on my NA 540, 680 hp, running full dry CMI's. I noticed no speed loss at all. Unfortunetly, as far as I know, GGB is out of business.

Tazz 06-21-2007 09:15 PM

GGB in NOT out of business, I posted the number above.

I am running 750 Cobras through Stellings dry exhaust.

ME,ME,ME.

Seriously, I put the mufflers on f311fr1's boat and was really impressed. The boat lost NO speed and they cut the noise in half. Would not hesitate to use them again.

Marginmn 06-21-2007 10:34 PM

Have people had good success using the CMI sound elimination system mufflers? I'm about to put a set on my boat.

Maybe we're not talking about the same mufflers, here's what I used

Here is what my ggb's look like, not the same from what I can tell,Smitty

Lofty 06-23-2007 10:19 PM

Tazz, those are the GGB Cyclones and work well on 500hp and under applications. The ones Smitty posted a pic of are the Extremes and work GREAT on most N/A and blown mills. The Extremes are almost twice the price of the Cyclones but worth every penny if you have the HP and don't want to loose it.

We have GGB Extreme 4" clamp ons on the shelf.

And lofty was cool enough to hook me up 2 years ago on them!! Smitty:D

wildthing357 06-24-2007 07:54 AM

articfriends, you should sell me the extra ones sitting on the chest.

What is available in the Cyclones?

Fionn,

Are the GGB extremes becoming available again? My 4.5's are working out great, but would like to know if I will be able to replace them if I ever have a problem.

I have a photo or two to send you when I get a chance.

Chris

Those are the same ones that are on my boat (from my file photos while I was installing the ext box last year),Sorry,Smitty

wildthing357 06-24-2007 12:47 PM

Can't blame a guy for trying.

Tazz 06-24-2007 08:20 PM

I thought they looked too restrictive, but they were bought for a 1000hp blower motor application so i figured i'd try them, i guess they sold him the wrong stuff.

We have some old stock of Cyclones. What do you need?

BillR 06-25-2007 11:34 AM

Not sure.
I have 575SCi's w/ 630 HP.
May be interested in bolt on style - maybe

Lofty 06-25-2007 12:53 PM

Could be close with the Cyclones, not sure that I would recommend them for that application.

I have some GGB Extremes that are a direct mount if you woud be interested. I am thinking about removing them and putting the open tips back on. They are 1 year old and bolt into the factory holes (at least on mine they did)

BillR 06-26-2007 06:38 AM

Blewbyyou

PM me on what you want for them

ZP'd 06-26-2007 08:22 AM

So the Cyclones would be overkill for a 496HO or not?
Are they Clamp on or ???

Starting to get fussy around here with the noise issue as well and the way it sounds they seem to produce the best reduction in DB's with the least performance loss..

They would be ideal for a 496HO. Do you need two sets? Let me know.

These are clamp ons.

Tazz 06-28-2007 10:42 AM

Lofty, do you have any of the Extreme 4.5" clamp-ons, or 4" slip in? Any pictures?

Lofty 06-28-2007 12:19 PM

4" clamp ons yes, slip ins no not yet.

ZP'd 06-29-2007 08:28 AM

I'd definetly want the transom mount or possibly slip ins Lofty.. Any transom mount in stock possibly in the Cyclone?
My angled tips would not work worth doo doo with clamp ons.

Angles tips would be a problem. No transom mounts but I do expect to get some slip in Extremes here in the not to far future.
