There was also a matter of "squatting" on a few web names like OSO.net and trying to sell them to the actual site owners. I hope he gets his money's worth advertising here, he threatened to sue my club because his ad wasn't out for long enough in our directory (the directory was a month late). Then we found he had never been invoiced and had never paid for the ad:rolleyes:

It was when Jeffery (I believe OSO was still Jeffery's site at that time) started to charge for memberships in order to attach/view pictures. At the time OSO was transitioning from a hobby/club type of site to a business, and JJ was *not* happy about it. He threw a fit, said he'd never pay to view pictures, etc, then went off and built a site named.... www.offshoreonly.net that looked exactly like OSO. There were some rumors of counselors being involved, and then the site changed to fastboats.info. Then to speedwake.com.
Somewhere along the way, the concept of "speedwake supporters" came to be, where if you bought something from the speedwake store, you'd get access to premium content like certain forums, videos, and the like. I know it might *sound* familiar, but it really was and is a completely unique idea that Jeff came up with all on his own. Of course, I'll probably get banned now... he has copied every thing we have done including banners speedgirl made, the softwares we use, etc. quite flattering. I saw him and his wife pulling in to St. Michaels a couple weekends ago while having lunch with my attorney. One thing he will never copy is my boating abilities according to what I saw in St. Michaels:D I will take the high road and will leave his ad in place. |

actually we were not charging for pics at the time he started his site. the part you forgot was the part about him registering people to his new site at the time and then pm'ing them on OSO and telling them to come over that they were already registered.

Hey Steve, thanks for the clarification - I just remember that the whole picture thing was a big burr under JJ's saddle. Ah, the old days... :)

I remember something about some sort of internet ranking for boating websites. I remember them saying they were ranked number 1 by this company due to hits or traffic or something.
I think GLH, CigDaze, or Cash bar got into it with him about the rankings being crap. I found it hard to believe that a website with less than half the membership and half the traffic could get this so called ranking. Not that it really means anything to me, but I did find it humorous. That's my $.02 for this thread... Buck |
