It could also be a fully compliant gen set, if it is, great... the only thing that must happen is every owner buys the proper replacement parts.
Wait, according to Sparky, EVERY diesel genset doesn't comply to the USCG regs. Just read his posts in this thread. EVERY diesel, remember? I even commented about blanket statements that include words such as EVERY because that makes the argument pointless. Thanks for making my point. ;) |
Wow, Jasser. What a hornet's nest you've stirred up! Just install a couple of fans in the cabin...UL Rated of course! That, or just invite my wife down there to stay in the cabin with you on those hot, humid nights. She'll cool off any room! :party-smiley-004:

There's always exceptions to the rules. I make big money providing problem solving engineering to get around established practices and regulations. In regards to this thread adopting a blanket statement is the only to avoid a life risking OOPS! There are ways to mix gas and diesel engines and avoid the hazards but they cost extra money. If it costs money someone is going to cut a corner here and there and before ya know it BOOM!. In this case a blanket statement is not wrong but it is the only way to guarantee the safety of everyone on this site! :evilb:
I'd really like to know if any exist, and if so which ones they are just for educational purposes. |

Honestly everyone of my customers that bought a MASE hates em. For my customers in the non IMO compliant countries I replaced em with a home grown unit. Its a little heavier and louder but bullet proof.:evilb:
Thats ok, opinions are like, you know:evilb::D seriously, Ive had 4 4k Mase, always ran good, quiet and effecient. |

It's a user thing. My customers were running their $hit damn near 24/7. A mase unit would usually have a life span of 6 months. My home growns are usually lasting about a year and a half which is way beyond normal TBO. The motors usually just wear out and lose compression. Only back end problems is AVRs and diodes. Fried rotors or stators is a very rare occasion. I change the armature bearings when the engine is TBOed.:evilb:
Jass only owns his boats for 6 months and uses them 3 times, so if you have a genny that lasts 6 hours he is good to go!:D |

Whats up with this crowd?
Must be lingering effects from the Fred/Trick thread... |
The latest episode of Ship Shape TV is about generators. The host asked a rep from Kohler if you could mix match gas/diesel and the answer is no.
Check it out if you get a chance, pretty decent episode. |

Dude up until a couple of days ago I was in the same camp. But as the old saying goes if enough people want something someone will build it. check this out: http://www.usdieselengines.com/Marin...extGen2006.htm
It states: ULTRA COMPACT MARINE 3.5 KW GENERATOR IGNITION PROTECTION CERTIFIED Models can be installed in Gasoline or Diesel Vessels. :evilb: I posted because a major manufacturer of generators mentioned it on TV. It's simply more support that you at least have to look for the right product before mix/matching. |
