This happened a long time ago on a Sonic I was working on....keep in mind this was befor they had the guardian crap...

The owner would try and get the boat on plane and the motors would sputter and starve for fuel.... Open up the engine hatch start running and everything was fine... Close the hatch and it would sputter.... After 3 times of opening and closing the hatch I looked around inside the bilge... Turns out one of the hyraulic rams that opens the hatch was pinching the fuel line when the hatch was closed, when it was open everything was fine....

I had one a few years back,
ran fine on water hose, go to the lake would not go over 2500rpm.
After switching out everything you can imagine,
Mercruiser said change the spark plugs to NGK's
that the high energy ignition was breaking down the factory plugs...............
Bingo ran perfectly.

Your getting more rpm could be something else,
Did it ever run properly?

can the determinr if its ignition or fuel since they share a tank i would maybe think fuel is fuel pressure where its supposed to be did they try an run the boat from some type of external tank like a ten gallon tank and plumb it to the fuel system change all your filters before you try that could be anything , good luck

just had a customer have exact problem 2 days ago on a trip up to idaho it was a kill switch it kept the boat in safe mode it took 3 techs and alot of phone calls before he bypassed the switch and all was better.

Boats: simply wrong.

Its the wiring. The problem is, which wire(s).

The problem with the analysis software you use via PC: it provides lots and lots of data, but no information. For example, it puts out the spark advance once or more per second, but what is it supposed to be? Doesn't tell you. Why is it at that advance? No insight.

As you have already seen, maintenance swamps fuel costs. Get rid of all that electronic junk and put on carbs.

whats up guys thanks for all the replies, still waiting to hear back from the main tech at eliminator although I spoke to someone who didnt really know and he said they might be replacing the computers. To answer all the questions. The boat never ran right. The neutral switches have been checked and they are in perfect condition although the computer seems to think otherwise. The boat has also been hooked up to another fuel cell to see if its bad fuel, still same chit so that rules out bad fuel. I had plans to take the boat out this weekend looks like I wont be going anywhere for awhile. BULL$#!t!

Cig uses the same engines, the problem is a mercury problem not Eliminator most likely unless it was rigged wrong.
