Default Anyone know anything about the CT river accident last night

I was watching the news this morning and it said a "speed boat" hit a shoal at 2am this morning than flipped over and ejected 6 passangers. It showed a picture of the boat upside down in the water. Anyone know who it is and if they are ok.

I am safe and curtious boater that does not drink when I am operating my boat. With all these accidents lately I think it is giving us powerboaters a bad name. Yesterday a cruiser gave me the finger when I was passing him.

how close were you when passing, IF I am moving fast I leave150 or so ft between us unless we are both going slow but never less than 60ft. all it takes is someone to make a u turn or any turn on you and if your flying . in no wake zones I get the finger from people behind me because of the dry S/M. art

Boat operator arrested after accident in Haddam
Associated Press
July 16, 2007
HADDAM, Conn.

A Meriden man was arrested Sunday after a boat he was operating hit a sandbar and overturned in the Connecticut River, sending all six people aboard into the water. No one appeared to be seriously injured, state authorities said.

Nicholas Blaise, 27, was charged with operating a boat under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the state Department of Environmental Protection said.

Blaise was operating the 25-foot Checkmater Convincer with five passengers aboard when it hit the sandbar early Sunday morning. East Haddam firefighters were the first to reach the scene at about 2:30 a.m., and were later joined by state police and DEP officers.

No further information was available.

The accident came exactly a week after a runaway powerboat collided with a sailboat on the Connecticut River in Old Saybrook. Susan Brandes, 53, of South Windsor, was killed and three others on the sailboat were hospitalized.

The driver of the powerboat, Gregory Siege, 44, of Madison, was also charged with operating of boat under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Authorities say Siege's boat was abandoned when it hit the sailboat.

Hit the sand bar on the back side of Haddam Island. Must have been disoriented or not know the river, thats a big a$$ sand bar that you can't get over at high tide.
