Donzi Splashes Factory II

From a good source Donzi splashed there first Factory II boat yesterday. Top speed was a LAME 88 MPH. The 36 ft Cigarette Gladiator in race trim is running in the very low 90's.

DONZIMAN2 01-25-2002 10:14 AM

I brought back the post from the other day. more data on DONZI.NET. We will just have to see where they end up. First run under a microscope. Looks like they need to get hot!

Dave M 01-25-2002 10:28 AM

What ever happened to that F1 team Damn Donzi?

Dave M.

BODYSHOT1 01-25-2002 10:30 AM

The Damn Donzi is here in Jersey..believe it's for sale...

Ridden Hard & Put Away Wet...I'm told!

mattyboy 01-25-2002 10:42 AM

first run 88 not bad not too far from very low 90's, it will be nice to see donzi on the circuit again, they have to prove themselves,so let's not dog'em till the get out there, let'em get setup and see how they do.
maybe they don't want to tip their hand
 ;) :D

Mattyboy
GO DONZI

DONZIMAN2 01-25-2002 10:51 AM

I think they have done well.
Number 1. they are willing to try.
2. They have obviously spent a lot to get to this first splash of 88MPH, which is not to bad for a 38 foot boat with this power.
3. Why would anyone who has an interest in powerboat racing not support a company who wants to throw there name in the hat and expand the field of competition, publicity, and potential marketing this could bring to the racing and boating industry. I say GO FOR IT!!

TYPHOON 01-25-2002 11:17 AM

Do they have a good team to run the boat at the races? We all know its not always the boat that wins , its the teams running them.
Randy

DONZIMAN2 01-25-2002 01:24 PM

I do not have a clue if they do or not. I am sure someone will step up to the plate. Any volunteers?????

BryanTuvell 01-25-2002 06:27 PM

Oh, so CIGAREETE holds the record?
In a 36?
Not shabby for a 36 foot cig! Not.

I will remain loyal and we'll have to wait for the new season!

Bryan

ssherman 01-25-2002 06:32 PM

In 36+ class the record is held by a 98 or 99 38 fountain that ran in key west as Speed Wear 36 and under is held by a 35 fountain UTZ/Pier57

BryanTuvell 01-25-2002 06:44 PM

ssherman, thanks for the data...
I was just shoveling back the crap at GOODFELLA..... I new it was not a Cig holding the numbers!!!

I am glad they have finally got that damn boat done, they have been talking about it for 2 years.

Hopefully they will have a safe season and finish good in the standings..
Bryan

BryanTuvell 01-25-2002 09:42 PM

Man this has been a long 7 weeks with no boating! Great thing about summer, the engine is running and not the computer!
Come on SPRING!

Go team DONZI GO!

Goodfella 01-25-2002 09:54 PM

Hey 2001 26ZX,
You need to learn how to READ and COMPREHEND!Quote(The 36 ft Cigarette Galdiator in race trim is running in the very low 90's) I did not say anything about it holding any kind of record. Are you willing to put your money where you mouth is I bet a Cigarette finishes in front of a Donzi at the first race in Daytona.

BryanTuvell 01-25-2002 09:56 PM

GOODFELLA, I read, can you?
Blow me!
Man ease up will ya....
LAME?
Update us when Cig gets a record....
Bryan

Are you up for a little wager?

ScreaminDemon 01-25-2002 10:01 PM

It seems the Goodfella isn't so good, ALWAYS starting ****!

Scott B 01-25-2002 10:01 PM

Well, with Donzi having deposits in hand for 2 new F2'a already, looks like your gonna find out..

Lets see, Cig Gladiator running low 90's? How long have they had to dial it in??

Be an interesting season :)

Scott B

BryanTuvell 01-25-2002 10:03 PM

No money required...
I am not saying Donzi will break any record soon...
It will be fun hoping, being their so lame...

Man come on spring.... :)

BryanTuvell 01-25-2002 10:06 PM

God, I must need another 12 pack because I am going to say something nice...

Yeah GOODFILLY isn't good, we all love our boats, stand by the maker and it is often fun to bash others in fun(gently)!!

What kind of boat does the GFELLO have?
Let me guess.....
HIS homepage link is dollar offshore, he must be in sales.....

I did not start this thread to disrespect any fellow OSO members or to BASH the Donzi boat company. Or the people that believe in there product.

BryanTuvell 01-25-2002 10:10 PM

Goodfella, just playing around, nothing personal.

Frank Civitano 01-25-2002 10:45 PM

Damn Donzi is in Bricktown at Lightning Jacks marina. John Wooley is the owner, He also races the Lightning Jacks Skater Cat. Damn Donzi won the World Championship then in the last two years of her running she was all busted up stringers and she was running sloppy, The boat is like an Icon to John he may have her For Sale but he just wont give her away! As far as who is going to race the 38, I wonder if Steve Simon is going to take a shot at it again, He raced for Scarab, and he designed the 38 Donzi. You never Know!
Frank

turbo2256 01-25-2002 11:14 PM

A friend of mine who just took worlds in his class said he was asked to throttle for the boat but said if it didnt hit about 96 he would just go back to his boat because the Donzi wouldnt be fast enought to win only compete.

Cain Crew 01-25-2002 11:25 PM

didn't damn donzi flip in key west in 1999?

Frank Civitano 01-26-2002 07:01 AM

Damn Donzi did flip thats when the stringer blew apart in Key West, She one the championship in 1998. Never look at the first test run of a boat,88 mph is damn impressive from a boat that has not been modified at this point. After they run the boat they rework the the bottom to giver the boats more speed. I talked to Steve Simon and he said that boat will be running in the 90s with 2 500s when they are done with her. There also looking to make a Poker Run edition that will run well in to the 100s.

BillR 01-26-2002 07:04 AM

The best of luck to them. I hope they clean up. Nice to see another well known name jump into racing. Now if speed channel or whatever they are going to call themselves will just show it on TV. . . . .

Goodfella 01-26-2002 08:13 AM

Your 100% right Mroffshore, They have to earn the respect of all the other fellow Factory II boat manufactures. Baja in conjunction with Skater have just built a Factory II ride also. It hasn't been run yet. It's gonna be a very competitive season :D

turbo2256 01-26-2002 02:16 PM

A Lake X dial in should improve the numbers and there is bottom blueprinting prop adj's to dial everything in for shure.

DONZIMAN2 01-26-2002 05:50 PM

I asked the same question on the 33 test report. I have factory test reports of a 33 Daytona with HP500's that did 84 on Radar/GPS. The Test reports with 502's and 496HO on Radar/GPS was 72-74 Miles per hour. Speedvision did a test on a 38ZX that did 75MPH on GPS. That is a 12000 LB boat. I am not questioning the Magazine report but it just did not make sense compared to these valid reports and 1100 Horsepower on board. As for the price the exact boat is in Montea Virginia with an asking price of $250,000.00. As discussed previously the other day MSRP is BS! The Fountain numbers were awesome. Looks like the changes they made were helpful. See YA!

BryanTuvell 01-26-2002 05:59 PM

I guess whoever wrote that Reggie sold his helicopter must have known the real deal, Fountain must have used the money for R&D.
Good move, impressive numbers....
Bryan

DONZIMAN2 01-26-2002 06:29 PM

The advertised difference in horsepower is 940 HP500 and 1100 0n the 575's as you indicate 80 per side. Another factor is the wieght and beam at 9'3" on the Donzi. I really like the way they ride in the CHES BAY on the long runs. The fuel economy numbers I have and the realities of ownership are different than the once I have found in magazines. Who knows. I still think they are all great boats. Have a nice day.

Good Job donzi!!!

And come on guys... of course the beak boat was faster... it was only 28 ft :p :p :p

Towel Boy 01-26-2002 08:50 PM

Guys, seriously, what is the point of comparing apples to apples, we are all boaters and enjoy it, I come from a differend part of the world, in case you wanted to know, it is a small island in the Indian ocean named mauritius, It didn't matter if you had a 13 foot pirogue or a 48 foot Tremlett, we were all boaters, fisherman, sailors and thoroughly enjoyed the sea and waterbodies, we are not different, we just enjoy boating in it's aspect, I ASK, why all the bickering??

Best Regards, Marc

BryanTuvell 01-26-2002 10:25 PM

Hey FEVER MIKE...
Your quote:
"The Donzi gas milage number were like .9mpg at cruise where the Fountain was at 1.5. This really shows how efficiant a hull is."
has Fountain ever sold a boat with stock power? of the 1000 that are for sale on Trader online there aren't many plane old 502 boats! Must need the HP to shove the beek and the swim platform around!

I guess Donzi's get less gas milage because we are in the water when everyone else is the air...
I love my pig/gas hog... she is heavy and ROCKS!
We may not hold a record but my bragging rights are better than most!

TROUTLY, the boat mentioned earlier sold for $210,K, again, so much for sticker prices..

Nothing like a Saturday night before dewinterizing to get me pumped up...
65 tomorrow....

All said in good fun so don't be too brutal...
Bryan

Scott B 01-26-2002 10:28 PM

It was interesting reading the writeup on the 33 Donzi. Having recently run in one with the same power, I was very surprised to see the speed numbers. The boat we ran showed 91 on the GPS speedo, and I have the pics to prove it. However, it was not running Merc props. The boat tested was, I assume because Donzi has a contract with Merc. I would like to see PB try this boat with different props...

Fountain 5' longer, 1,300 lbs lighter.. That would explain a lot!

Scott B

BryanTuvell 01-26-2002 10:33 PM

it is a big beek!

DONZIMAN2 01-26-2002 10:38 PM

Scott, The numbers you discuss makes sense. I have valid factory test reports that lay out a comprehensive package of weight, atmospherics and all the other stuff relative to comparing these numbers. Again the magazine numbers just do not add up for the motors they had in the test boat. Thanks for the info. Good thread.

mattyboy 01-27-2002 10:17 AM

who'll be driving? it's funny talking about
mpg's usually not a topic with these boats, but it says alot about a hull and I guess it's important when ya fill that bad boy up! should be a great season, if we can only see it on bowflex tv! when does donzi make their race debut?

Mattyboy

DONZIMAN2 01-27-2002 12:25 PM

The 26ZX Donzi is a twin step. The only single they produce is the 22ZX. A friend of mine once ask what the fuel mileage was on my 1968 511CI Big Block Chevy Pro-Street Camaro. I told him I did not have a clue. When I layed out the option package I deleted the heater and the fuel gauge. .9, 1 or 1.5 MPG it is still a lot of money. I am just going to enjoy my toys. In the big scheme of things I cruise more often than I WOT. My primary concern is to be able to get out in the Ches Bay and not come home feeling like I just went 15 Rounds with a heavywieght Boxer. Donzi gives me that satisfaction regardless of what I had to pay for it. At the end of the day the tanks will normally be empty but I do not need pain medication to deal with the after effects of a 200 Mile round trip cruise with my spine out of place. You all have a nice day.

DONZIMAN2 01-27-2002 02:45 PM

In ruff seas I would rather be on the Harry S. Truman, GWashington or one of the other US Aircraft Carriers, but I do respect your support for the Fountain Name Plate. Mass X Heavy Seas = a units ability to handle it. Nice thread, Talk to you later.
