Who will be “TOP GUN” at this year’s Shootout?

I don’t recall seeing this started yet so here we go…

If Callan/Cosker are present I will have to pick them for Top Gun with a 210mph pass. If they are not, I will pick the Bud Select MTI as I predict they will top 190mph this year.

Only 6 more days, I can't wait. The event is a definite highlight every year.

What does everyone else think? Who will be there running for Top Gun?

Buddy OO 08-19-2007 03:36 AM

will be bud select turbine 218mph, callan 210mph, bud select mystic 184mph

Von Bongo 08-19-2007 08:19 AM

I won't pick a winner but I'll pick a number 211

Coolerman 08-19-2007 10:12 AM

I'm rooting for team Bud Select. That vid Dave posted a while ago was pretty impressive :D

Jassman 08-19-2007 10:15 AM

Terry Sobo in a new resin infused vacuum bagged 43Nortech Cat with 4 Merc 1200's:cool-smiley-011: :D

seriously... Callan is my pic

WeaponX 08-19-2007 11:37 AM

Dave and John will be on top again.:D
220, 221 whatever it takes.

With the shootout moving this years numbers will never be produced again.:angry-smiley-055:

Dean Ferry 08-19-2007 07:56 PM

It should be interesting with all the turbine boats running this year. Dave Scott and JT are going to be a tough team to beat, But I know the Callan camp has NOT been sitting on their azzes either. Wish I could be there.
Anyway, I have to go with the Callan team, with the Bud Select Mystic 50 running a close second.
Dean

DJD 08-19-2007 08:10 PM

Won't Reggie bring his "Cat Killer" & scoop up the entire litter box?:party-smiley-048:

Doubt Reggie will show up

Buddy OO 08-19-2007 08:32 PM

Dean, I believe the MTI turbine will outrun the piston powered Mystic.

Von Bongo 08-19-2007 09:35 PM

I believe the mystic 50 of bud select will make only 1 run for promo purposes. I think the focus is the turbine boat and the MTI.

Griz 08-19-2007 09:49 PM

Everyone who wants to see tall numbers need to tell everyone else to get off plane way-way-way early as they arrive and idle way-way-way out if they leave early. All the drivers will tell you water conditions [ie. rollers] are the number 1 hinderance to good runs. Every year there's som J__off plowin' his Gayliner or GayRay way too far in to the no-wake zone. If you see one of these idiots shoot them... :chill-pill:

Rebel_Heart 08-19-2007 10:14 PM

I agree, the rollers are just one more thing to watch out for. They just kinda sneak into the course from one of those tuna boats.........

So every year I hear rumors that the shootout is moving. What's the scoop on the shootout moving after this year?

Well it may not be moving but....They are tearing down Shooters this fall so no docks or building to serve as an HQ after this year.

It would be real tuff to have it there without Shooters.:D

Usually Reggie is over at Raymonds every year for Fountain days... but I haven't heard anything about it this year..

Sean H 08-20-2007 07:40 PM

if the forecast stays the way it is now (temps in the high 70's saturday), speeds could be huge! :cool-smiley-011:

my pick for top 5

Bud Select Turbine 219 (220, 221 whatever it takes.. :D )
Callan 210
Bud Select MTI Sterling 185
Bud Select Mystic Sterling 175
CRC 174

boater31v 08-20-2007 08:04 PM

I thought I read on here, I don't remember what thread it was in, that Dave and JT would only make one run each in the Myistic and Turbine boats and all other runs would be in the MTI?

bidpro 08-20-2007 08:34 PM

I understand that Leon Derberry has a new 40 Skater with sonething like 2K HP per side - he is expecting 220MPH plus and he knows how to set it up.

Probably not finished for this event but watch out

Doesn't the Callan/Cosker boat have two sets of engines? One piston powered, and one turbine powered? I remeber Cosker mentioning something like that a year or two ago.

If I'm not mistaken, for racing, they just replaced the turbines with the V-12's.

Bidpro, I was hoping to see Derbery's boat last year. Maybe he will be there this year; I always enjoyed the 32.

When I spoke to him at the dock, he said they were running the turbines for some races, and the V 12's for others, but like I said, that was a couple years ago.

Knot 4 Me 08-21-2007 11:05 AM

Pulling for David and Johnny. Nothing against Callan, just like to see the title change hands year to year.

goman821 08-21-2007 12:46 PM

i wan't to see dc /jc start racing again

Maybe they will leave the boat at LOTO for a month and race against AFM Miss Geico in the turbine class?:cool-smiley-011:

Unless they change their mind in the next few days I'll put $10 that team CRC runs 0

I'll gladly pay the $10 if I am wrong:boat:

I hope so, since the boat resides there ;)...I hope they run, they ran well last weekend and hopefully that gave them the incentive to run (sorry Earl!)

I'll gladly give Dorhoure my $10 when they complete their first run.

caferacer 08-21-2007 09:09 PM

Have not heard a word of GOLDDIGGER....You just have to wonder if OL was setting up big power to make a big splash??!!................Just a thought:angry-smiley-044:
