REGGIE FOUNTAIN

I was working in our agency booth at the NY BOAT SHOW tonight and I got a tap 0n the shoulder.I turned around and there was REGGIE.I have many friends in this business and I'm on a first name basis with most of the execs from all of the major manufacturers and I'm proud to consider REGGIE a friend.I found out that he will not be at the NY show on Saturday but will be at the Toronto show this weekend so stop by the booth at that show to meet him.

Reggie who ???? Oh yeah, he has that show, "Reggis and Kathy" or something !!! And also the show,"Who wants to buy a Fountain".

HelmPilot 01-12-2002 09:07 AM

Dave, You have to spend more time in the boat, on the water, chasing power! It's obvious you are watching too much TV. Did you get that boat ready yet or is a new one in the picture?

was chatting with Reggie the Mrs (miss?) Reggie today at the Toronto Boat show, He was as gracious and approachable as ever, Said they sold 15 boats at New York, and gave me a pretty good "its time to trade up to a new Fountain" talk.....he's still a cool guy.

candyman35 01-12-2002 10:38 PM

I have been trying to buy another Fountain. I had a question about the ITS and pricing and can't get the factory to return my calls. Maybe Reggie will be at the Chicago show and I can ask him in person. Otherwise it might be time to take another look at what the competition has to offer.

Dan:
The factory is shut down...Call Cigarette :D :D :D

How's it going, buddy?

Reggie Fountain...

Is he the guy that owns the boat company that puts in big motors and installs clear plastic winshields....

The new ones look like Bayliners as far as I'm concerned....

At the New York City Boat show they were right next to Bayliner and it was hard to tell them apart from a distance.... Don't know if that was because Fountain is going backwards or Bayliner is going forward.

US1 Fountain 01-13-2002 11:13 AM

Must be rough when you find it easier to knock another guys boat than to be able promote your own.

pullmytrigger 01-13-2002 11:43 AM

Candyman- I called down there last week about some stuff and couldnt get anyone either. I finally ended up talking to a really nice gal who was taking calls for Jeff Harris, she said its unfourtunate but they're right in the middle of boat show season right now, New York last week (huge), Toronto this week etc etc and theyre all running around like crazy right now. But from my experience yesterday at the Toronto boat show, believe me, they're ready to sell boats! Doug PS wih I was in your position

fountain1fan 01-13-2002 11:58 AM

i was at the factory the sat befour new years and there was a bout 50 people working hard as all'ways . boat how season is hear did get to see the new cat setting out side and a 37foot cruser in the water i jest love going home

candyman35 01-13-2002 02:55 PM

Twin29,
Did Reggie's sales talk get you thinking bad thoughts? :D I was planning on putting some bigger motors in my current 35'. I found a couple left over 2001's that I could move into for a reasonable amount of cash. Then I started playing with building a new boat. If I'm smart I'll run my boat for one more season and have Bruce build me some 540's. No one ever said I was smart. :D

Cigwillie,
I never rule anything out. Cigarette makes a beautiful boat also. How long is your boat sitting on the trailer from tongue to prop nut? Just curious. How was your ski trip? How did the resorts compare to Colorado and Utah?
Dan
BTW, Steve from Active Thunder is right on the ball. He has already E-mailed me asking if I would consider an AT. They are also great boats that can take a beating.

WILDTHING TAZ 01-13-2002 07:25 PM

SO TELL ME SY DID YOU SELL HIM SOME BOAT INSURANCE ?

sy goldberg 01-13-2002 09:10 PM

I didn't have to sell Reggie any insurance but he sure helps me sell a load of policies.Call the Fountain,Black Thunder,Outerlimits,or Hustler factories and you will find that I'm the agent they recommend.I will be adding another major boat builder to that list very shortly.I will also have a third high performance insurance program in place in the next few weeks.I'm looking forward to this boating season as it should be a great year for the industry based at what I saw at the NY show.

Madcow 01-13-2002 09:15 PM

Hey Sy, Since Reggie puts a big markup on everything he puts his name on, is he charging you for this thred?

RON 01-13-2002 09:17 PM

I like what, US1 Fountain Said!!!

Thats sooo true!! :D

sy goldberg 01-13-2002 09:17 PM

SO TELL ME TAZ DID YOU BURN DOWN YOUR ENGINE BUILDERS SHOP BECAUSE YOU WERE NOT HAPPY WITH THE DYNO FIGURES OR IS THIS THE NEWEST TO HEAT TREAT AND STRESS RELIEVE AN ENGINE BLOCK?

IDRPSTF 01-14-2002 02:41 AM

Im curious if BCC's employment offer still stand with Reggie. He's right "Darlin you would look good sellin his boats". Of course, Ill have to teach you how to drive one first. That still gets me. That and the screen saver. :D :D :D :D

BACK 4 MORE 01-14-2002 03:20 AM

Hope he's at the Chicago show so i can kiss his feet.

Jana 01-14-2002 08:05 AM

Wish he would've come to Houston.

US1 Fountain:

I love Fountain Boats. I'm always on the lookout for a used 35 at the right price and right condition. My observation is that they do not seem to have changed in the last 10 years.

NO ONE knows it all and NO ONE has the majic formula for building boats. Everyone else seems to be making improvments and strides in the designs but to be honest I just don't see that rate of change from Fountain.

I look at a 1995 Fountain 35 footer and a 2001 35 Footer and I hardly see any difference. Perhaps that's good for guys that own 1995 Fountain in the sense that their 6 year old boats don't look dated, but then again aside from adding steps to the hull...what's changed or improved????

my humble observation...

- jeff

Indy 01-14-2002 09:18 AM

I don't own a Fountian, but what they have seems to work well, other than aesthetics, why change if the hulls work well along with all the other goodies.

sy goldberg 01-14-2002 09:40 AM

TO MADCOW:THERE IS NO FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT BETWEEN FOUNTAIN POWERBOATS AND TOTAL DOLLAR INSURANCE OR WITH ANY OTHER BOAT BUILDER.I THINK THAT THE MANUFACTURERS ARE SMART ENOUGH TO REALIZE THAT THEY NEED THE BACKING OF THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY TO HELP IN THE SALES PROCESS OF THIS CLASS OF BOAT.I THINK THAT BOTH TOTAL DOLLAR AND OUR COMPETITORS HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB CONVINCING NORMALLY CONSERVATIVE MARINE INSURANCE COMPANIES TO INSURE HIGH PERFORMANCE BOATS.I REMEMBER THAT NOT TOO MANY YEARS AGO THAT LLOYDS OF LONDON WAS THE ONLY SOURCE FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE BOAT INSURANCE WITH VERY HIGH RATES AND HORRIBLE CLAIM SERVICE.I'M GOING TO WORK NOW AND THIS WILL BE THE LAST SERIOUS COMMENTARY THAT YOU WILL EVER GET FROM ME AS I HAVE AN IMAGE TO MAINTAIN.

01-14-2002 09:49 AM

Indy

why change?

because NO ONE has the perfect hull and companies should dedicate a percentage of revenues to R&D and be innovative. History has shown that companies who are not innovative usually go out of business.

Absolutely no doubt that Fountain makes a great boat and of very good quality. I'd just like to see some innovation from an industry leader.

Indy 01-14-2002 10:22 AM

JeffreyBoy - point taken, I understand the need to change in today's business environment as much as anybody. GE has become the ultimate US Corporation based upon that mind-set.
However, the boating industry does not impress me as being cutting edge technologically. I see more innovation from the engine side of the business because of the integration of EFI units and metalugurical advances. Maybe there have been changes in the hull processes and materials, but I'm not aware of many in comparison to other industries. It seems that hulls are mostly vacuume bagged or hand laid, balsa cored, foam cored, vinylester resin, wood/foam stringers, bi-axial/tria-axial/quad/whatever. Some kevlar/carbon fiber applications are out there also. If the industry has changed more than that on a production/limited production basis, I'm not aware of it (which doesn't mean much since I don't have a ton of knowledge in this area). I would think that most of the advances would come from the supplier end of the business with new materials so that the boat builders can incorporate them into their boats. Maybe the boat builders work hand-in-hand with the suppliers to come up with a new product.I'd love to hear from somebody in the industry if there are things going on that most of us are not aware of. I might use that knowledge when purchasing my next boat. Steve

Biggus 01-14-2002 11:24 AM

Sy, good to see you at the show and thank you very much for hooking us up with the tickets! :D
I hope you wrote many policys, Kurt

sy goldberg 01-14-2002 01:07 PM

HEY KURT! YOU'RE WELCOME,TRY TO COME TO THE ATLANTIC CITY SHOW AS THERE ARE MORE HIGH PERFORMANCE BOATS THERE.I CAN'T SET YOU UP WITH TICKETS BUT I CAN TELL YOU HOW TO PAY FOR THE TRIP AND EVEN END UP WITH SOME CASH.I WOULD ADVISE PLAYING THE SLOT MACHINE ON EITHER SIDE OF THE ONE I'M PLAYING OR THE MACHINE I JUST LEFT.I'VE SEEN IT WORK MANY TIMES(assuming you can get the time off from work).

Biggus 01-14-2002 02:04 PM

Sounds good Sy, I`m pretty sure I have the day off :D
Kurt.

Pure Energy 01-14-2002 02:20 PM

Sy,

I think Madcow's post was a shot at Reggie, not you, but a shot nonetheless (sp). If you are going to promote yourself on this board you need to roll with the punches. :D Good Luck
