A handful of sub-30's do the run each year but remember it is a 160 mile boat ride each way so comfort/fuel can be an issue. I have done the run in a 32 with 100 gallons of fuel and it was a cool run even at the back of the pack. My boat runs WOT in the low 70's and several in the pack cruise at those speeds and above. The water conditions are not much of an issue until Sunshine Key when they run the last 30-35 miles offshore to Key West in the early afternoon. For me the worst part was the Sunday ride home after 3 days in Key West the last thing I wanted to do was run 160 miles back to the trailer then drive 2 hours home. For some the length of the run with tempermental power can be an issue, if you break you are far from the trailer!

Well stated. I would just add if you have a single engine / drive be sure to have a Sea Tow or Towboat US membership. Probably less than 100 bucks and good insurance to have in case you have a problem. While some would probably stop to do what they could, it may spoil someone elses day as well if they end up in a towing stuation.

Congradulations Jackie !

I only wish now I didn't use up all of my vacation time on races.

Perhaps in 2008 I should set the week aside to cover your event...

Best of luck to all and may you have a safe event...
