Maybe Skip or Bud, or someone at the Cig factory could run a history or look for the file on that HIN# ... give them a call and see what they come back with.

Best guess is it's a raceboat and those ribs on the headliner are what's left of the bulkheads. If it was a raceboat, the deck would be too thin to remove the entire bulkhead.

Call Cig and have them run the #. They may have done the pleasure mod to it.

There are a couple of older flat decks for sale in that range. A friend of mine had a 35' Mistress listed that has been pretty much restored with low hours on NA 540's and TRS's. I think it's a great buy. I think he's still asking $45K. Certainly faster than the 502's. PM me if you want the contact info.

CRT signifies it was made by Cigarette Racing Team
126 is most likely the # of the boat.
J is the month it was made - October
6 indicates it was made in October of 1986
87 Indicates it was an 87 Model year boat.

Hope that helps...

IS there anywhere else on the hull or interior etc the HIN can be found on a cig beside the usual transom spot?

The story on a 28 I'm talking w an owner about is that the previous owner was removing the rubrail, going for the glassed in look but has sanded off the HIN.
Owner says that the boat is titled as a Cig but I'd like to make sure the paper and hull ID Number match.

(Sorry to pirate the thread)

This is on a mid 80's 28' SS not the same flat deck. I recall Lear or Lancer on L.I . was making 28 SS copies.

Thanks
Evan

Yes, it is older. The fairing is of a Flat Deck. Here is a 1987 38 Top Gun; you'll see the difference.

I always wondered where that 87 top gun got to

Hey Erol, The hull ID # (HIN) will tell you exactly if / if not it is a Cigarette. What is the entire # not just the last 2 year numbers (IE : 87) Is it a CRT******* or something else?

Good luck with your search. :drink:

Chris

Decipher this ?
