Race boat grave yard

I picked this up off yachtforums. One of the guys there is building a big yacht in Italy. The person who is building it used to be a famous racer & took him to see some of the old boats kicking around behind his yacht building business.
I see a few future poker runners in the pile!

Power Marine is the boat that is toast. Turbos caught the hatch on fire and away she went. 1996 pole position champ even after fire. Isotta Fraschini 3 turbo motors

Benedetto is a 55ft V with a big wing and a loooong snout.

Fresh and clean (Spelta) Isotta Fraschini diesels.

Good boats in their day.

There isn't a link to a site, it was just the pictures you see here. Since I posted this, I have made contact with the guy who took the pictures. Anyone want to make a package deal offer on all the boats with me? I see a few poker runners there!

jonyb 12-17-2007 02:55 PM

That's just it, I don't see pics. My membership ran out and I don't see that it's worth $40 to see pictures.

jonyb 12-17-2007 04:52 PM

I've paid the $40 for the last 2 or 3 years. Just decided not to pay for it anymore. I'm not in the project business and don't own a powerboat anymore.

Phil M 12-17-2007 05:20 PM

I used to film all those boats and many more when I filmed for the Italian group in 1993 - a shame to see them like this -

Walter Ragazzi was my contact then - dont know what has happened to him - another good guy there.

sad to see those boats like that - I just remember them running fast - seeing all the excitment in the pits etc. -

Or I could just do a 3 minute search and find the real thread, not one that someone else jacked.

And this is how you post pics:

Randy Scism once showed me a picture of a boats stacked on top of each other like you would stack barrels. I think they were discarded victory boats.

shipping may cost more than the boats worth:(

Lofty 12-17-2007 06:34 PM

It is a shame to see those wasting away like that.

Let's do some math though;

Ship old hull from Italy: $15k
Pair of supercat motors: $100k
SSMVI or Arnesons: $100k
Cat Trailer: $20k
Rigging: $150k on up
Paint: $50k

We're at $435k and I'm sure the cost would end up being much higher. You can buy an awful lot of boat ready to run for that kind of scratch.

As sad as it is there is a good reason nobody has done anything with them.

I think you are light on the shipping. I am checking on shipping my boat and trailer too St Thomas. Its around 10K with an 9ft by 50

Lofty 12-17-2007 06:39 PM

Could be way off on that #. I just took a WAG at it. We just shipped a Fourwinns to Kiwi for a customer and it was right at $11k for a 25ft boat.
