Who has had Jim Valakeo do your heads

What did Jim do to your heads and what improvement did you see?

I have 2 pair of heads that were done by Valako I haven't put them on my boat as it is for sale I am thinking about selling them, they are cast iron casting# 049 oval port that have had him put the big valves (2.19 and 1.88)in, pocket ported and have the springs installed for a bigger cam, they have the teflon seals in also. The heads are fresh never ran yet, they should work well on any mild big block....Fred

Dyno's heads were done by Jim. Turnkey season last year.

Jim only assembled my heads no port work!

I've had many sets of heads ported from minor to major and assembled. His wedge's are a proprietary item available through him, and work extremely well. He is fairly priced and provides quality work.

Fred;
What kind of boat were you going to put the heads in and what were you looking for HP. I have a Big Block that is already .030 over and I would like to have the heads redone to maybe get a little more HP out of them without getting too WILD. Thanks

I bought a motor about 3 yrs ago with a set of Jims heads. They have they wedges in them along with the intake, they are merlins. These are the best heads I've seen, unreal power from a normally aspirated engine. Best of all three years and no bravo failures. :D :D :D

I am running stock rec. port heads that Jim did his majic on ( wedges,port work and bowl work) since then I have unshrouded the valves and cc'd them then cut them to increase the comp. These heads really work!34 SCARAB

I had Jim do some peanut port heads for my 330 about 7 years ago. New intake, bigger carb, port, polish, added about 5 mph. BUT, I will never touch another peanut port head. The WILL crack between the valves (even with hardened seats). I have two sets to prove it. Makes good weight for the back of the truck in the winter!!

I had Valako do a set of heads for me, World Products rect port. Jim did a full port with wedges, fully assembled with matched intake, and I am completely satisfied with the work.

It ran on the dyno and gave me 710hp @ 6200. Jim built my whole motor (540 cu) and I run the hell out of it and it has never given me any trouble.

You do however need to have the lifters rebuilt every 150-200 hours, and you also need to keep the valves adjusted when using a solid cam. I always change my oil every 30 to 40 hours, and make sure you have a big enough oil cooler. :D

Check out all the guys from Michigan that went to LOTO and did well using Valako's heads.

Jim and BJ (his assistant) rebuilt my motors and assembled my heads. He did a great job and I had a trouble free summer. I would recomend him as a vendor and think he does a great job.

If one of the guys on here is the owner of "Blue Moon", or knows the boat. I think it speaks for itself. Or ck out he Smoke on The Water Video where Blue Moon just smokes by a fountain, its cool.

This is KAAMA (Mark)...I'm at JimV's shop and using his computer and thought I would post as long as I was here and comment on the port work Jim is doing on my heads...obviously I'm going to say good things about his head porting work being that I am in his shop at the moment and using his computer. Anyway, I just stopped in to see how my Dart PRO-1 heads were coming along. Last year when Jim and BJ were building my new 540" engines I had Jim do some chamber work and some bowl work on these heads as they really are NOT as good out of the box as anticipated. Jim put them on the flow bench right out of the box and was pretty disappointed with the flow numbers even thought these heads come pocket ported from the factory. While I was standing there he called Dart and asked how much more porting could be done to these heads and their response was; "not much". So, Jim did some combustion chamber porting as well as some further porting in the bowl/pocket areas beyond what was done by the Dart factory (out of the box). Jim picked up some very good numbers over the factory port work. This winter I had Jim do a complete fully ported job to the heads and we picked up even more numbers. I plan to have one of the engines dyno'd in a few weeks to see what the results are. Jim has posted the numbers on his home/web page along with some nice shots of my heads. I am very pleased with what Jim and BJ have done with my engines. Jim has finished the first set of heads for the Port engine and will be heading for the dyno very soon. BJ does the engine assembly and JimV does all of the head porting work...he's an airflow guy and he's commited...that's just about all he does! Mark 616-291-7932
