looking for a 38 footer
I have a friend in the Cleveland area that is looking for a boat in the 38 foot range preferably with a stand up cabin. I was thinking Scarab or Sonic and he is looking to stay in the 50-60K range. Any thoughts? Whos got what for sale?
His previous boat was a ScarabIII so he already has all the clothing and matching can coozies:drink: |
38ft stand up cabin for 50-60 - sonic, forumula (maybe), black thunder, fountain sport cruiser.
For the money and if you have to stand up in the cabin - I'd go with a Fountain sport cruiser. |
that was actually on the list but he did not like the cabin. im not sure if stand up is mandatory but the more head room the better if possible. right now just trying to see whats out there in the price range and go from there.

Dave,
Sent you an email, I have a 358 Sonic For Sale. |
Dragnass can your boat be bought in that price range? If it can I buy it this weekend.

I want a stand up cabin too. :D
|
But that's not possible for me unless I stick my head out of the bow hatch.
I am eyeballing a 91 F311. |

Nice! you gonna be at ORYC or moving north? any pics?
I dropped my BYVC membership last year. All I did was mow the lawn. No pics yet. Boat belongs to a buddy and it is in the rack storage. It looks just like this one but with a yellow stripe instead of the teal. Couple of different dings. It's one of those kind of deals where it's not being advertised, the hope being that buddy can buy it from buddy and it's still "in the family." |
great boat. man i miss the breakfast over at ORYC on sundays :D.

Formula 382
A mid 90's Formula SR-1, 382 will fit the bill except for head room. How much time do you spend standing in the cabin anyway? A Formula PC has standup head room but it's slower.
|
No PC yet, 382 and scarab thunders would work. I think were out of luck on the headroom unless we find a sonic.
|
I am outta luck on headroom unless I am smashed by a cartoon anvil. (6'6")
|
|
By the way people 89scarabIII is the one look'in for the boat.

His previous boat was a ScarabIII so he already has all the clothing and matching can coozies:drink: Dave, Dose'nt Sparkys buddy have a 96 or 97 Powerquest 38 with twin Merc 500hp's with like no hours for 55k? |
At 6'6" you will not have to worry about hitting your head on the cabin roof of a 382. I am 6'4" and the roof is at about mid chest level. So there is no danger of not seeing it and whacking your head. The only two problems with a low roof are putting on your pants and trying to sit in the head. I figure a 30 - 40 knot cruise and a smooth ride through 3 footers are well worth those small issues. Also, if you trailer, gas and storage are a lot cheaper. Of course that doesn't count the F350 I just bought. But a man needs a truck anyway.... right?

I have the best of both worlds. A ScarabIII and a 2000 Donzi 38 zx, and to be perfectly honest my Scarab is more comfortable and actually better layed out to weekend on than the Donzi and that has 6 feet of headroom. If its me and one other person the Donzi is fine but if i have a big crew the Scarab can comfortably sleep more. Dont get me wrong the Donzi is a fantastic boat, quality and performance are great. But for some reason its just easier to do 3 or 4 day weekends on the Scarab.

I 2nd Dave on the crowds. The 382 is STRICTLY a 2 person boat for an overnight. A 6' 6" friend of mine & I brought it home from upstate NY via Manhatten. One in the V Berth one in the couch was fine. If it had been my wife, two in either place would have been OK. BUT there is no room for 4 people to stow their gear OR move around in the cabin.

380 Powerquest has 5'9" headroom..sleeps 4
This one is out of his price range, but has some pics of the gallery and berth http://jlbco.hypermart.net/380.htm |
2 Trick Rick that powerquest sounds right, Dave we need some info on that one.
Formula 382 sr-1 forward me some info on that will take a look. |
I thought the primary reason for a cabin was to block the view and to have just enough head room lean over and get your zipper up....
Things like a nice "head" and enough storage room for a cooler were attributes needed in friends boats. How old are you guys? Merry Christmas! Ben |
58 Probably a good thing most young guys can't afford BMW540's and 382's. There would be more casualties
|
Were in are 40's, but spend every weekend on the boat rain of shine.

What do you use to stay dry in the rain? I have been thinking of sewing in a Kayak cockpit ring into my cockpit cover and wearing my spray skirt and dry top. |
