Cobra Cat ??
 

I found this boat sitting in back of a junkyard in my town. It is for sale but the guy who has it knows nothing of the boat or any boats for that matter.
He said it is a Cobra. It does not look like any Cobra I have seen in my search online.
It is powered by twin 2.5 Mercs which have 225 on the cowlings.

The boat is in pretty rough (weathered) shape but would clean up nicely.

Anyone have any knowledge of this type of Cobra ?? I have no idea what year it is but I would imagine early 90's.

Any info appreciated

They use to build them near me they went out of buisnsess years ago

Not Sure, he is an ole timer and said I could come back and talk to his son. I will try and pass by after X Mas and see if I can get more info.

I am not in the market but it may be a great winter project for someone.

Anyone have any info to share on this Cobra boat company ??

p.s. The hull was 30'.

I had a '96 30 ft w/ twin 300's. Boat ran close to 100 and handled very well.

we used to run against bill gazelle in great adventure in 92 in a very similar boat he would be the guy to contact to get more info they just did a write up on him in pra recently ..the boat ran pretty well, just not enough to beat a 28 skater though .....

I will try and get more pictures when I go back.

I wonder what would be a good price to offer him ??

They were popular for a short while partly because of Bills effort marketing it. I don't think they were ever anything more than OK. I remember they had no compression designed into the tunnel.

I'll give him $1000 and $500 to you for brokering the deal. ;)

Simmon motorsports had one for sale a while back is it the same one.............

This one is in a Junkyard off of Texas road in Marlboro and looks like it has been sitting awhile.
The ole guy wasn't sure if his son held papers on the boat or not.

I am going back Friday, he said I could fire up the engines if I brought batteries and rabit ears to listen to them (if they start).

I am hoping the engines are ok and some good OSO brudda can get a good deal on a fixer upper. I'll keep you all informed.

I remember seeing one for sale at around 35K. It had big hp engines and looked to be in good shape. Hope that helps as far as market value.

I just sold mine. 1995, twin HP500/Bravo's, excellent condition, mid $40's.

It was a great way to get into a cat for minimal $$$'s. Definitiely a great way to learn about cats before stepping up to a newer design with more power. Mine ran 103 mph tops and 98+ any day.

I'm actually going to miss that boat. We sunk our blood, sweat, and tears into getting it dialed in. But you know "Boat-itis"... Gotta get a bigger boat... :rolleyes: But I ain't complaining I'm lovin' the new ride!

Sorry Twoks I have not been able to get the son to call me. The Ole Timer can not recall if they have the papers on the boat. He said He would give me a Bill of Sale but not a traditional title if I were to purchase it.

I tell you if we can get a good deal on this boat for you bro You'll have you a nice rig. The more i look at her the more she grows on me. Like I said she is weathered but with some elbow grease and minimul dollars she will be ready for spring.

I plan to stop by again Friday, I'll report back.

Keith what are you looking for in a Cobra, I have a 30 Cobra Terminator Race/Pleasure layup that I am totally redoing right now. I'm getting ready to paint it (weather permitting, probably spring time),just installed a race hatch constructed of 1" Baltek composite on the rear of the boat, I have a brand new Racetech interior with seating for 5 for it, I have 19 brand new Autometer UltraLite silver gauges including GPS speedo and 2 EGT's and sensors for each motor. Both 2.5 Merc outboards to be totally rebuilt (still have one apart) They have new Alien head cowls on them. It's got CLE lowers with lots of spare lower unit parts and tools. Also have 2 Custom 15" Rapid Jack jackplates all powdercoated blue (sick looking). Boat will be all white with blue accents. Also have a South Florida Trailers aluminum trailer I am also upgrading everything on. I'm an hour north of the city in Wappingers Falls, NY right near the Hudson River.
I might be interested in selling it for the right price( Really want to finish it though).
