Gas prices

With the talk of gas going to $4.oo a gallon, hate to see what they will be this summer on the water. I'm thinking it will be a good time to buy, some good deals on buying a boat.

CigDaze 01-10-2008 03:49 PM

It's been 4 bucks at my marina for the better part of 2007. :(
Ya, can't wait to see what it will be like this year.

BUT!!....some people are beginning to think that crude oil price is on the verge of collapse. We shall see.

Lt for Life 01-10-2008 03:54 PM

I remember reading a thread last summer when gas price were $3-$4 on the road. People are willing to spend some serious coin for gas in the boat.

But what the heck you cant take it with ya.

never seems to matter when filling the boat up....

Wardey 01-10-2008 03:59 PM

I just filled up on diesel......$95.00 !!!! This is the worst I have seen. Dave

My 44 gallon Excursion fill-ups are over $150. And I have two of them!

I'm hopeful on gas prices this season. It's an election year and the party in office can't afford $4 unleaded at the corner station.

NKissau 01-10-2008 04:21 PM

About the only good thing about trailering everywhere. Get to fill up with the "cheap" gas.

GLH 01-10-2008 04:35 PM

$1 or $2 more a gallon would not represent a big add percentage wise on the expense of running one of those rigs for a year...

cigrocket 01-10-2008 05:13 PM

If only gas was the major expense with boating. None of us would be complaining! LOL

That and impressing the crowds at the local "cheap" pump while you're still shelling out the washingtons by the fist full.

Quinlan 01-10-2008 05:40 PM

I was filing up last summer and as always someone asked how much it hold. I said 150 gal he said $150 and was ****tn his pants. I just left it at that.

CAP071 01-10-2008 05:54 PM

NO boat NO truck. I saved enough $$ to go buy a boat :p

I parked the Excursion in the corner of the shop for the winter. It sucks when it costs nearly $50 just to fill the TDI. Our plans for buying another offshore are definitely on hold as well- as much as we've loved the sport, we're getting pretty close to sticking a fork in it.:(

bgchuby01 01-10-2008 09:26 PM

Ok, so when someone needs their boat moved I hope that no one will complain of the price due to the fuel

ROB FREEMAN 01-10-2008 09:58 PM

well i fiqure it this way , 1 day a week will now go to playing and gas for the boat , that still leaves 4 or more to pay for the rest of the ****ier things in life , ill have to just play harder one day instead of playing cashual for two :cool-smiley-027: the jl equipment will be playing much more this year , bring it !! oh yea its winter im going back to the iggloo :hitfan:

I posted about this last week. I spend quite a few bucks a month on truckload freight. In 2.5 years, fuel prices are up about a buck fifty a gallon but in that same time my rates are up by a buck a mile. If you're getting 8mpg, cost increases should only be 19 cents a mile, based on that $1,50 fuel increase.

The freight brokers keep telling me it's all fuel cost. My calculator says different.

UPS $13 to ship a 4 lb., $30 value 8x8x14" box to eastern Mi. from NY today...

more "oppurtunists" taking advantage of the current "climate" and the fact that as a whole we're too fokking lazy in this country to ask questions, or better yet...

demand aswers! Answers that make sense!

we just take our fisting lying down as usual...

I fill up the Donzi at the same gas station all the time (cuz its the only one i can get into) an the same kid was there all last summer. He would have to re-set my card like three times for one fill up. One time, as it ticked past seven hundred, the thought occured to me. . . . . if this was a gas bill for my house or some other kinda utility I'd be pissesd :D . . . . .

Very good point....I did pass that on to one of the haulers we use and he laughed......"Those are your numbers not mine"

Great answer for jacking prices:(

I fill up at the same place everytime as well because it is easy to get into and out of, and is the only name brand station that is moderately close. The pump quits at 100 bucks (not gallons - DOLLARS) - talk about a pain.

Jammin' 01-11-2008 07:07 AM

I can't wait to put $500 of gas in my boat. It'll be the cheapest thing I've put in it yet.

CAP071 01-11-2008 07:12 AM

Yea and that includes the women also :cool-smiley-027:

bouncedcheque 01-11-2008 09:39 AM

Read two articles recently:

#1 - China curently uses one third of the oil consumed by North America - due to their expansion, in 10 years they are expected to use ten times what North America uses

#2 - Car-maker tata Group just unveiled the Nano, a car to be sol throughout the world at the cost of $2,600 for the base model, "alllowing millions in India's emerging middle classes to buy a car for the first time". It runs a two cylinder 33 hp gas engine.

Demand is going nowhere but up, and at an exponential (sp?) rate.

rangerrick63 01-11-2008 10:20 AM

Fuel prices are one major factor that has me reconsidering a twin engine boat, & looking at a smaller single. I truly love boating, & to me, if I'm going to drag my boat at least 30 miles to put it in the water, I want to be able to boat more than 10 minutes just to end up "sitting" all day. So in my "cheap-a$$ way of thinking....smaller boat= less purchase price, smaller single boat= less fuel cost, which = more boating time...:D
Again....I'm a "cheap-a$$".....:evilb:
Hell, I may even look into mounting a trolling motor on the back for those times when no one is looking, then I just run the boat on the trolling motor.....:D

I usaully go to the cleark before I start pumping and ask him/her to keep the pump on....they'll ask for a credit card and ID to hold unitl you're done but its better then having to keep going back.

You can also call your credit card company and have them bump the purchase limit up. Most cards are preset to shut off at the pump at either $75 or $100. It's a fraud protection. My dispensers are set to run up to $350 per sale as long as the "pay inside" option is selected.

boating37 01-11-2008 02:16 PM

I guess I know now why all the yachts never go any where, they just stay at the dock all weekend.

Both good to know. I always assumed it was just the pump itself - never would have thought that the clerk inside could alter the amount.

Lt for Life 01-11-2008 07:33 PM

I filled up at Wawa last summer. I was bone dry 72 gallons had to reset the bump 3 times. The dumb azz clerk came out and said that because I was taking up to spots I had to leave. That sorry employee cost the owner a lot of money. I have to drive pass that Wawa every time I put my boat in the water. But now I drive an extra 10min out of the way to go to another station that is O'so happy to take my money:D

in NJ where its all full serve the gas guy was tired of holding the nozzle so he use to let me run the pump myself :cool-smiley-027:

Don't worry - they will complain, while they are sipping on that 20oz bottle of water they paid $2 for. Gas is still cheap considering.......

Thanks for the reference tip this week.

bgchuby01 01-11-2008 10:45 PM

chris, I had 30 10 car haulers and they got 4.3 mpg not 8. but to a point you are right. BUT what is happening is that trucking has not had any raises for a long time so the companies (trucks) are using this for there cost of living raise.

FeverMike 01-11-2008 10:53 PM

I boated a total of 30hrs this year..that is it. Normally I am around a 80-100hr a year boater. Boating has become too much of a pain in the azz to deal with.

sleek1 01-11-2008 11:25 PM

I got a call from the bank fraud dept after filling up my truck and boat at the gas station. Heck, I hadn't even left the pump yet talk about being on the ball!

Mercury_Challenger 01-12-2008 08:47 AM

We had a decent 2007 as far as boating went, but when gas got close to the $4 a gallon range we all tied up and did the big party......$10 for a 12 PK of brew, or $150 worth of fuel....it was a no brainer for us and normally getting the boat out is fun, even if we just go out a bit and tie up with 4 or 5 others, its the party/friendships that counts.
