Problem with carp

Had 6 slimy asian carp jump in boat when fired up. Following a friends boat they were hitting boat hard. A big one even hit the windshield. Damn things are everywhere.

They just want a ride:party-smiley-004:

BDARCHER 02-18-2008 10:53 AM

Maybe. I know it sounds crazy.

TexomaPowerboater 02-18-2008 12:48 PM

Doesn't sound crazy at all. There is a video on youtube of some rivers that are having the same problem. Apparantly its a wildlife disaster and they are threataning all U.S. waterways. I did see some people making money doing shooting guides. Kind of like skeet shooting only with these carp. Looks like a lot of fun, but I'd rather be boating. I hope they get it all sorted out.

Wally 02-18-2008 12:53 PM

They are a problem here on the IL river too.....theres an electric fence that the state installed to try and keep them out of getting into Lake Mi....if they happen to somehow cross then their backup plan is to poison the entire river for a set amt of miles!!!

Bobby, do you think they can jump high enough to get in this?

packinair 02-18-2008 06:40 PM

I guess there have been people really hurt by these things

ZP'd 02-18-2008 06:41 PM

Went on a Poker Run on the IL River last summer and those SOB's are alive and doing well in the Peoria area of the river.
Quite the acrobats and 5-10' jumps out of the water from the wacked out attack fishys was fairly common.
Slimey SOB's as well..

Easy, they will break your face at speed. Somebody here has actually had a fish hit them in the face at 70+ on a big boat, but I think it was in the ocean.

Hey, shotguns work for me !!

Hunting season lasts all year and there is no limit or license !!

Just don't camp to close to the shore !!

I can see where the skeet shooting thing could be pretty cool.

Some where on youtube they are bowfishing for them, shooting them in the air.

I was running the nightwatch on a 52 foot sailboat that a friend of mine owns and has me run for him every once in while down to the keys and Tortugas.

It was 3 in the morning and I was on watch by myself on a perfect night of 20 knots on a broad reach with the rail buried in the water with dolphins surfacing right next to the rail for about a half an hour heading for the
tortugas from Naples.

Anyways i am dead tired and the only thing that is keeping me awake is the dolphins playing by the side of the rail.

Next thing i know a fish about 30 inches long b i t c h smacks me in the face and lands in the cockpit jumping around trying to do its best to destroy every thing there. After what seemed like forever but what was only about 15 seconds of my startled sleepy azz screaming like a little girl i i kicked it overboard out of shear panic .

Anyways that was FUN.

THe carp are bad in the rivers around here too. I have never had a problem in a faster boat but on cruisers, fishing boats etc. They are horrible.

McGary911 02-19-2008 07:38 AM

Wow. This seems to be the best I can see on youtube. IT's a 2 parter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS7zkTnQVaM

and part 2.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ChwJiKKBdA

In the second part, they get a crazy number of fish jumping by throwing a bit of electric current into the water.

BlackJack58 02-19-2008 08:56 AM

I know it wouldn't be funny if it happened to me, but I almost bust a gut laughing when I saw that one video - the guy at the tiller of an outboard caught at least a 10-pound carp right in the nuts!

Man, that had to hurt...

pullmytrigger 02-19-2008 11:44 AM

brutal!.....is there any other fish in those rivers anymore??

SKRAMER 02-19-2008 01:18 PM

Joedecon 02-19-2008 03:15 PM

Perlmudder 02-19-2008 03:29 PM

Airpacker 02-20-2008 08:45 AM

have no natural predators..
Sure they do. The Asians fish for them like crazy up here. Makes velly good fish sauce.

BDARCHER 02-20-2008 11:13 AM

Going back to harbor off Miss river Sat for more test @ tune on friends boat. Weather permitting. Going with 12 ga. this time. Going to get a bigger boat.

wheels61 02-20-2008 12:04 PM

some friends of mine just took 60,000 lbs of them out of the kaskaskia river.

BDARCHER 02-20-2008 12:14 PM

What did he do with them. There was 200 or more in the air at one time around us. It was insane.

wheels61 02-20-2008 05:31 PM
