My Grandfather was the 1st man to ever fly to the North Pole
He was Floyd Bennett. I never got a chance to meet him because he died flying a rescue mission before I was born.
I understand he was quit a man. There are 2 airports named after him and a plane named The Floyd Bennett is on display at the Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Mi.
Also a Navy Destroyer, The USS Bennett
And he received the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Calvin Coolidge.
I just wish I could have got a chance to know him.

That is way cool JB, my grandfather worked for a government agency, he never did discuss his work as he was not allowed to, made for rather dull company.

JB4Boyne 03-10-2008 10:09 AM

Yea I think it was kind of cool.
I think I must have got my wonder lust from him.
Here he is getting the Congressional Metal of Honor.
I remember my dad telling a story one time about the instruments not being very good back then and they got a little off coarse because everything is SOUTH when your at the North Pole.

That's something to be very proud of, you cant find a better role model.

Brad Zastrow 03-10-2008 10:23 AM

I think it may be a fake photo. How can there be a shadow on the moon with the sun behind it? Any astronomers on here help me understand how?

You may want to grab another cup of coffee. We are seeing the dark side of the moon or at least it's profile.:drink:
