We are really hoping that the Poker Run guys give it a try.
It is the weekend following the big New York City Poker Run on the Hudson, so the boats have time to get down to Sunny Isles for the race.
Until you look around you for 360 degrees and see no horizon, you can't appreciate what a really big factor the ocean itself has in a race like this.
Speeds come and go, but more often than not, the best prepared boat and crew got the job done first. There will be some surprises at the end of the day.
We also have coming some of the famous old race boats......Number 1 would be the Formula 233 that Don Aronow raced and was the first race boat he named..The Cigarette. One of our HORBA members has restored it and has promised to bring it so it can be reunited with it's old driver George Peroni...the guy that bought it from Don.
That long pointy thing was a Formula also...that was the kind of experimenting that was going on back then...they tried everything until they found the right combination of things that worked.
The other photo with the boats heading out to the Southern Ocean in Argentina, shows the kind of water that they used to race in.

With all the great names and people envolved in planning this event it is bound to be awesome!! This is a chance to show what you and your boats are made of, like the good ole days!! Here is a chance to experience what all the great names in the sport did so many years ago and pay tribute as well. Dont think of it as a race if thats holding you back from coming. You dont need a huge vee that run 120 or a cat that does 140, you can do this run in any boat.
