Sweet !! Thank you !!

Smitty 03-10-2008 09:38 PM

Man those prices are high. I would need 4. Hell that's 2 full tanks of fuel !!!

Griff 03-11-2008 02:18 AM

That would probably be why you don't see a lot of them.

Big Time 03-11-2008 06:51 AM

Wow, by the time tax and shipping is thrown in you could spend close to a grand on some of those for 4 fenders!!!

Has anyone tried e-bay for these....there's got to be a cheaper alternative.....

eichhoma 03-11-2008 08:39 AM

Or.... you could just make your own... :cool-smiley-027: Doesn't have to be billit alum.... regular aluminum shines up just as nice...

Smitty 03-11-2008 08:55 AM

I smell a business opportunity

I was going to make some of my own this summer...

boatfreak 03-11-2008 03:14 PM

I've thought the same thing guys. I feel in love with those things the first time saw a set of them and when I went to buy a set I fell right back out of love. Do ya think someone's making a buck or two on them.

Yeah, great idea especially when you are short on storage space, but there are better ways to spend the money. Has anyone tried to make their own? Any pics?

Griff 03-11-2008 09:14 PM

Overtons has a different/cheaper version.

I plan on making a set out of 1/4" chrome moly tubing and then powder coating for the finish. I will mount mine under the engine hatch on my 27 Fever. Right now, 2 8" and 2 4" bumpers plus my anchor take up the whole space under the back seat and I want it back.

I'll be sure to post up some pics when I'm done.

I bought mine from a custom machine shop that makes some nice custom billet marine stuff. He has some real nice fender holders. Can be stacked for multiple units. I don't remember the name. I will look-up the paperwork and post it here later. I believe the price was not too bad either.

LZH 03-11-2008 11:08 PM

ROTAX - thanks man, that'd be some good info if you can find it.

PhantomChaos 03-11-2008 11:08 PM

Shouldn't they make a buck or two on them? Do you think they make 1000's of these....or even 100 a year? It's not really THAT pricy for what it is. Fully machined aluminum, plated, warranteed and made in the USA.....not China!

Maybe they will toss in a cup holder or a T-Shirt like Trick Marine did. :cool-smiley-027::cool-smiley-027::cool-smiley-027::grinser010::grinser010:

Those are the ones. They have them in different sizes.

Panther 03-12-2008 07:58 AM

I've seen people make them out of starboard. If done right they look nice and blend in with the hull.

These are real nice pieces. I will post a pic later. I bought three holders and a bracket system to gang them up with. Polished on the holders and candy purple on the gang bracket.

fastscarab22 03-12-2008 07:48 PM

there was some shown that were made out of pvc , like the stuff used for a main line or drain tile with holes, cut to fit . Not the best but if its under the hatch who cares . They were in a baja thread

chuckd1025 03-12-2008 07:55 PM

How many interested at $150.00 a piece? ANY color choice. Depending on how many i'll have my fabricating department build the damn things that price is rediculous!

dreamer 03-12-2008 08:10 PM

was gonna buy some but with no boat so to speak....

i think 150 is the price point where these things will move...

my one sticking point is proper mounting and what to do with the fender line so it doesnt come loose and get entangled in the belts of a running motor

pasunbum 03-12-2008 08:18 PM

i am interested...for my topgun...... would like blue in color....

velocity27 03-12-2008 08:33 PM

how about something light weight with a closed casing so the fender ropes can be put down in there as well and not have the chance of it getting close to the belts on the motor and a drain hole in the bottom for the water to get out

Would it be a better design to keep it enclosed? Instead of like this one in the picture have it shaped for a fender and put a drain at the bottom? The one below as you see has a cleat on the outside where you can rope up your rope so it doesnt get close to your belts and drives. I think the design is good, its open to where water can get out, it has a cleat there for the rope to go around..We are just off on price? Others agree? im open for feedback?

dreamer 03-12-2008 08:55 PM

how do u mount under engine hatch? u ant just screw into the side of the boat... do u have to glass in a backing plate for a proffesional "real" install?

I'LL TAKE 4 RED

freshwaterfiend 03-12-2008 09:26 PM

I'd be interested in a dual fender design for like $200-$250. I'd need two and would like them to mount to the floor rather than the side.

In the engine hatch there's two walls in most boats, if you look at the bottom of the engine hatch it comes down at an angle, if you mount on the right or left wall you use short screws and it will only go through your inside wall and not your exterior wall. No glassing is needed..

chuckd1025 03-12-2008 09:39 PM

It would definitely be better if you didnt have to SCREW into anything but with the amount of speed we run with our performance boats and bouncing around I dont see any other way of keeping them secure unless you do mount them with screws...

This is the Billet Proof Design product.

I like the open design. I think anything enclosed might collect dirt/grime which is a PITA to clean and you don't want that to get on your fender and then possible scratch your boat. I like the open design with the cleat...simple yet effective. I also like the idea of a dual rack for two fenders.

Good point. I agree. I am planning to mount (permanent adhesive) a block of wood with "T" nuts mounted on the blind side (1/4-20 thread) so the fender holder rack bracket can be bolted to these designed/fabricated blocks, to the interior hull sides of the engine compartment.

Hey Big Time, I like your avatar pic.

Thanks, it's the old man's race boat. Hopefully will have a picture of my own boat this summer!! :p

chuckd1025 03-13-2008 05:04 PM

On those mounting plates i dont see why you couldnt just silicone them to the inside, If you got tired of it take a razor blade and cut around the cilicone and then there off. That would definitely secure them onto the boat without having to actually screw into it, or even a clear liquid nail. I think it would hold it. I'm still looking into getting these made with the figures im getting to get material and such it is way off from what i said but ive only checked one supplier. so keep your fingers crossed.

brian valery 03-13-2008 06:57 PM

I have used aluminum tubing (the kind used as dryer vent tube or AC tube) from HD. cut to length and screw to the front bildge wall. Works and looks great and hold the fender tight. Boat is shrinked, but will post pics in a week.

Why not just use stainless steel?
