Leave it the way it is. It is a classic design and paint scheme.

How did I do that ? If anything I've improved it. New XR drives with IMCO shorty lowers...powdercoated swim platform that was corroded, pulled tabs media blasted and painted w IMRON (they were highly corroded and pitted), same for gimble rings (new black) and transom assemblies. Pulled lots of bits and pieces and refinished and powdercoated. If anytihng I've spent close to $30k cleaning up a boat that desperately needed it to PRESERVE it's heritage. I haven't painted the stripe red....perhaps you missed that.

It definitely gives the boat that retro look. Cig made just a small handful of black-sided 35's and they had the red/silver Cigarette stripe. The only one I remember with the solid red stripe was the late-70's 35 that was a project- F/S in the Cig forum and then sold on Ebay. Earlier this year. You can find pics there.
Aesthetically, if you do the red, you're going to have to bring red in elsewhere. As an accent point, it looks natural in the "1" in the oval logo. Adding the stripe might work if you added red accents to your silver interior but then you have a confusing blend of non-complimentary colors. Black/white/silver works well. Ditch the silver and go red/white or all red on the interior and then the red stripe works. Less is more. |

Ted did the best with the limited services available to him in Cleveland....I was amazed at how few good boat services were available there....He used the boat and enjoyed it. I knew when I saw it that for it to meet my high level of attention to detail, I would have to spend some $$$ to get it there. That's fine, now I plan to use it and enjoy the hell out of it.
when its back to museum quality put it in ur living room:party-smiley-004: |

Just get that thing in the water and bring it up to Channel islands
Why go up there? There's only retired people up there. Bring it on in Newport / Long Beach and hang out! :D |
