Default Drive Question, Max Machine or Imco Extreme

I need a drive that can handle about 900 h.p.. I am looking at a Max machine and an IMco 2Etremes SC. I want this to be a reliable set up and dont want a bang going WOT. Pros, Cons, hp ratings and just personal exsperience.

The Imco will never last with that power! Neither will the Max from what I have heard. I too would look at the Xpower.

Go IMCO!! Everything that I've read say's that they can handle the HP & torque.

That's what I plan on goin' with when I up the HP.

I had a 900+ hp 565 Crockett Whipple single engine 27 Lavey cat and the IMCO lasted 2 1/2 hours. I got a Max and it was much better, only two uppers in 30 hours.

Bottom line: on single engine applications there are many problems to overcome in a non-Bravo type outdrive. Lack of room for a transmission, low speed characteristics, cost, etc. If you have a very narrow performance requirement, just top end, little or no manners in getting on plane or low speed enjoyment, then a non-Bravo type drive may be an option, especially in a single engine application.

Do not be fooled. Cash for outdrives follows big horse power. There are exceptions to every rule, but not much here. Quent

Konrad with the HD upper shaft. Factory rated and warranted for that amount of power.

IMCO's new SCX will definitely hold 900hp on your boat. Yes they rate it for 750-800hp, but thats just what they're warrantying them at. Everything in the SCX is new and so big its not even compatable with a regular bravo. From what I hear, the drive with HD gimbal will be around 15K? I'd like to see the XPower, but it might be a while before those come out. From what I hear, Max is good too, thats what Gary Taylor is running behind a 1200 in a 130mph 28 Howard.
