I run merc hp. If I switched I would probably use Mobil 1. Most of the specialty oils are made from mobil 1 base stock, then add their own additives. Amsoil does I think, and probably Royal Purple also. Basically I think they are all high quality and you probably can't go wrong with any of them. Its like choosing between Lambo or Ferrari. I prefer a lambo, but not because it's better, I just like it.

Merc HP for me too. Change twice a season. Im of the opinion that gear lube in and of it self is not enough to save your drive. There isnt a magic lube. Why spend more i guess? Its all on the driver.

Maybe in a stock application,run hard or allot of power it will still heat up

I broke a drive with Amsoil, I broke a drive with Merc HIPO, I broke a drive without any oil. Moral of the story is I broke several drives.
