Thanks guys for all the nice words,I guess you all have more confidence than me.I would still rather have the extra 5-10 mph to be the same as the other boats.

I was reading on SBI for the rules for F1 and for the engine they allow any engine but max. 500HP. The top 3 finishers will be subject to a prop shaft dyno test to test for complience and if they go over then they are disqualified.

So basically a HP500efi will qualify. Now my question is does anyone have the tq and hp dyno numbers for this HP500 engine?

Now if the 500HP rule is the max I propose an engine with a FLAT Hp curve. The dyno curve would look like this:

RPM HP TQ
2000 500 1313
3000 500 875
4000 500 650
5000 500 525
5252 500 500
6000 500 437

Can you imagine the torque and acceleration coming out of a turn and down the straightaway.

So how do you build an engine tike this? With "inverse variable boost" that is at 2000rpm have 16 lbs boost and at 5252rpm have 0 boost. Think about this type of engine:

RPM..........N/A HP..........BOOST..........HP...........TQ
2000........... 250.................16...........500.........1313
3000............300.................11...........5 00..........875
4000............400...................4........... 500..........650
5000............500...................0........... 500..........525
5252............500...................0........... 500..........500

So do you think this motor would be faster than a stock HP500?

Marty you are right. They dont even have any specs. on cubic inch or tourque for guid lines. Im no motor guy but why not build either a lite (aluminum) small block and save all the weight for more speed. Or huge cubic inch for a ton of tourque.I think they will have a lot of racers with ????? unless they are just there for fun.Its not alot of fun getting your ass kicked by someone with a motor shop in there back pocket.

Marty, your right. You could build a motor of any nature as long as it doesn't exceed (I thought it was 470 HP) the max hp at wot on the dyno. I believe it must be naturally asperated.

This rule was put in place to lower the expense associated with racing. The idea is that you can now build your own motor rather than paying through the nose for Merc engines and CRE rebuilds.

On the flip side a low output 540 cube block is as legal as a screaming small block. Take your pick and why not have both since they are probably half the price of an HP 500 from merc.

So now what do you build to win races? A 572 with dual plane manifold, long small tube exhaust and small cam to build big tq and low top end hp. The timing curve could be backed off to limit top end hp. Just thinking how to win.

From my understanding if you could take a Torque V12 and detune it to 500 HP at WOT that's all that matters.

I would ass-u-me that you would not be allowed to make more than 500HP at less than WOT. In otherwords you can't make 800 ponies at 3/4 throttle and then flood it out after that.

For the gear head this is a windfall. For the guy that just buys a 500hp, he could possibly be at a disadvantage.

It brings the engine builder back into play like the old days when the rules were more open to interpitation.

Again, the reason is two fold. To have some difference in the SBI rule book and to lower the cost of racing. I bet SBI would allow a BMAX too. I don't believe SBI has any big sponsors to piss off.

As I have always maintained. Both groups do thier very best. If you want very strict racing with tons of rules, run APBA. If you want to race for fun and enjoy a more relaxed environment, race with SBI.

The only problem with this rule is that an SBI F1,2,3, or 4 boat may not be legal in APBA.
