How much do you spend in GAS per season

Wanted to get a sample of how much everyone spends on GAS each boating season. Since I'm from Michigan, I only get to use from April to October.

In 2001, the total was $2200

NASDBOY 02-20-2002 08:52 PM

are you talking about just boat, or boat and tow vehicle?;)

Evil Twin 02-20-2002 08:58 PM

*Single Engine
*Season May - October boat $2,400, I could spend more but my wife would disembowel me!!!!
*Truck - $1000.00 easy

ducHunter 02-20-2002 11:02 PM

About $750 w/ a single 200hp Merc Outboard, but then again who cares if your having fun and have all winter to pay off the gas bill.:D :D :D

boot 02-21-2002 01:00 AM

Whow !Can't let that out ! If my first mate hears ,she'll want a rase !

I'll just say ,in the third group .

Iggy 02-21-2002 05:39 AM

Since the local lakes are small and I didn't put a lot of hours on it last season, I think I spent about 250.00 in fuel.
If I lived along the coast I'm sure I'd use a lot more.

Milord 02-21-2002 07:04 AM

I'm certainly over the 4K mark but gas costs me around 3.00 a gallon on the water last season.

MooseKnuckle 02-21-2002 07:25 AM

Milord, where the heck are you buying guys on St. Clair? The most I paid on the water last year was $2.30, and that was only for a short while.

I usually fill up on the North Channel.

My bill would be about a $1000 more, but I take mgrs from work out for rides, and they always fill the tank up on the Company!!! :D :D :D

BAD HTM SR 24 02-21-2002 07:28 AM

$3.89 a gallon for CAM2,80 -100 gallons per week for 6 months,i dont even want to do the math.

CigDaze 02-21-2002 07:45 AM

Single 496HO, 100 hours per season:
~$2000

Milord 02-21-2002 07:47 AM

96Vyper, it's a that much a gallon in my money, not in yours!:D

seanclong 02-21-2002 07:56 AM

I estimate it's less than $1500 but I really have no idea. 50 hours on a 7.4 MPI with most of the time at about 3500 RPM's. It didn't seem too bad at the time so I really don't care.

Sean :)

Nut 02-21-2002 07:57 AM

I put about 100hrs a summer on a 520inch single in a 26 Scarab. The boat has a 94gal. tank. Just put the debit card in and fill it up. Don't look at the receipt Just give it to my better half and let her figure if there is any money left for beer!

LS-7 02-21-2002 08:02 AM

single 454, right at $2600.00 for 30 days in the water

Uncle Toys 02-21-2002 08:54 AM

Never kept a running total before, but I filled up the new tank last weekend and it cost $130. At least it lasted all weekend. Probably do a weekend per month, that's 12 times $130. Plus a couple of full weeks each year, so add another couple of tanks, that's an additional $260. So that's what, $1,820 per year before the Whipples go on. Then the Excursion gets 10 to 11 mpg, and its 500 miles round trip to Havasu, times what per gallon - $1.30? Times maybe 14 trips per year - another $1,000? Call it $3,000 per year for gas?

Damn, why are we doing this - that wasn't any fun!

MooseKnuckle 02-21-2002 03:53 PM

Based on the poll, seems like most everyone buys $4000 or less each year. Now I can say..."Everyone else spends just as much gas as we do honey!" :D We are Normal boaters!

bn 02-21-2002 06:41 PM

We spent about $1000 last year.

Twin engines, boat May - Sept

why wait 02-21-2002 07:48 PM

lotsa air miles by the end of the season

NICKSLICK 02-21-2002 08:13 PM

i boat 40 weeks a year.

100 per week.

$4000

****... whyd you make me figure that out.

KCHOTBOAT 02-21-2002 08:23 PM

I spent less than a grand last summer since I spent most of it waiting for parts for the new motor which I blew to much money on.

Chart 02-22-2002 12:16 AM

KC beat me to it. When your engine cuts your season very short, you save lots on gas!

MooseKnuckle 02-22-2002 07:31 AM

Take make things worse, here are some misc facts for everyone:

$2500 invested at the beginning of each boating season, for 20 years at 7% return would accumulate to $109,663 at the end of year 20.

$3000 would accumulate to $131,595

$4000 would accumulate to $175,461

Don't tell the wife that!!! :D :D :D

Milord 02-22-2002 07:33 AM

Come on 96Vyper, what could we do with an extra 175K laying around!:D

MooseKnuckle 02-22-2002 07:40 AM

Milord...you wouldn't have $175k with the current exchange rate :D It would be more like $112K for the Canadians!!

DaveHam 02-22-2002 08:12 AM

$ 1330.26, Feb 9th thru Oct 1st.:) :D

Uncle Toys 02-22-2002 08:13 AM

96 Vyper - Screw the saving thing, you don't get more toys by saving;) Anyways, after taxes and inflation your numbers would be materially smaller. I did like your idea about using the data on the wife though.:D

obnoxus 02-22-2002 10:11 AM

I don't even like to think about those things. When people ask if boating is expensive,,, I tell them it holds 100 gallons, and that's not even two full dyas a fuel and watch there jaws drop,,,, damn land lubbers just don't get it !!! The Baja is 4 years old with 550 hours on it, gas was over $2.00 here for some time,,,, I honestly don't even want to know !!!!!

Wild Horses 02-22-2002 01:46 PM

We do a lot of boating.... twin BB ... Tom Cat.... How often is it not WFO whenever you see us?

Kept all bills. $3200

Chris 02-28-2004 10:14 PM

I don't even want to guess. I am afraid if I add up my receipts, boating wont be as much FUN!!

Formula Outlaw 02-28-2004 10:29 PM

 This is the kind of poll the "wife" absolutely cannot see.

CAP071 02-29-2004 12:31 AM

I don't even keep track

Re: How much do you spend in GAS per season

lots

R Addiction 02-29-2004 08:09 AM

Had to remind me Huh? Last season wasn't so bad, But I'll try to fix that this season;)

Waterfoul 02-29-2004 01:28 PM

Last year, three full 100 gallon tanks at about $1.60 a gallon or so. The last half of the last tank ended up in my truck after I hurt my motor. So, last year was an easy fuel bill I guess. Other years, I could not tell you how many tanks or how much money, I average over 100 hours a season. May to end of Sept.

I boat a lot! When it's running....

traviss 02-29-2004 05:34 PM

I think I average about 50-70 gallons a weekend, depending on the weather. Alot of driving around in a circle on a lake 4 miles long :( From memorial day to labor day, i run up there :D

So at $3 a gal I don't even want to add it up

Ironmanwb 02-29-2004 06:07 PM

It's all relative

2 to 3k per year

4 months of boating

2 454 mag mpi's gas at the bargain price of 1.90 -2.20 per gallon

I agree with all of you who want to delete this thread ... i only ever thought about it as $150 bucks each time ... It seems so much worse when you add it all up ... If I didn't boat and spend all the money on gas, beer, dockage, beer, weekend trips, beer, repairs, beer, and upkeep not to mention the depreciation on the boat I could be a very rich man but I would't have any fun with money in the bank

therefor its all relative .... you can't take it with you so might as well throw some damn good boating parties.

Ironmanwb 02-29-2004 06:19 PM

Cost of a boat

Gas $2500
Dock 800
Beer & bar tab's ??,??? I really don't want to think about this one

Depreciation 4,000
Repair & upkeep 1,000
Weekend trips 2,000

Getting to tell the story about your drunk friend passing out naked on the sunpad at 2:00pm at Put-In-Bay ......PRICELESS

Moisture-Missil 02-29-2004 06:29 PM
