Apache's available with stepped bottom?

Have seen alot of the videos here with Apache's, They look pretty solid in rough water, are they all straight bottoms, or can you get them with stepped bottom, Is there a speed difference and handling difference between the 2?

PhantomChaos 05-20-2008 12:08 AM

They don't make that Apache stuff anymmore..........it has been deemed too toxic to make with all that resin and stuff..........not a "green" design. :D Although.........adding a step might bring the design into the 21st Century!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Griff 05-20-2008 01:12 AM

I think he's talking about real Apache's not Sunseeker Apache's:D

The real Apache's have not been made for over 10 years. They were all wave crushing straight bottoms. Chief Powerboats tried to revive the company and Apache heritage under a different name after a legal battle over who really owned the Apache name and built 1 step hull boat.

Fathers 36 was biuld by Bob S and it has a single step. 2001 36 footer with twin 575sci's with about 100 hours on her. I do believe he is going to lsit it for sale soon. Sadly.

crb76 05-20-2008 06:21 AM

Bob built a few at the end. He raced one in F2 for a year or two. He did make a few recreational versions like the one above. I dont know anything about performance with the step or ride quality. I would like to know.

Chris Sunkin 05-20-2008 06:23 AM

Depends how loosely you want to define what is and isn't an Apache. The Chief, built by the original builder Bob Saccenti, is stepped.

This could easily turn into a 30-page thread ;)

So "what's in a name" anyway?

Father had a 36 Apache before with not step. We have noticed no difference in ride between the two. But we run in the Thousand Islands. Havn't had the new one in the ocean, or in any salt water actualy.

FWIW this boat can reach mid 80's with no problem with 575SCI's. It was proped at lake X .

If you want a stepped 41, we can build it for you.

Bob S and I will be involved in the whole process, so it can be as original and Old School as you want.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right- I looked at his other posts. In a couple of them he's pontificating about this and that, dispensing his vast knowledge, then this newbie thread. Joy-posting cocksucker- nothing more. So now what's the tally? Buddy00, Wiggler440 and how many other fake names? This tool just doesn't get the message.

Where's Jassman? He'll love this.

Tom A. 05-20-2008 10:17 AM

Well with Charlie and Bob S. involved, you could easily call that an Apache.
It would be the same as if Cigarette no longer existed and Neil Hernandez and Craig Barrie built "Top Guns" out of the 38' molds.

C_Spray 05-20-2008 10:21 AM

I saw an Apache that had been busted up in a crash and repaired so poorly that it had a step in the bottom...

The only stepped 41 Apache that I know of is/was sgrady's boat...and that was his project not Apache's.

The stepped 36's are very hard to come by. When I was buying my boat Bobby had the last one and it had staggered 575's... NOt sure where that boat went but he was giving me a great deal on it.

Canada Jeff, send me a PM. I'd like to know more about your dads boat!

Yup -
Scott's boat is what I was referring to.
In addition aren't there still a handful of step bottom boats that Bob S. built after Apache, and before Chief ?

The Caesars boat is the one that was used as a farm implement.

Don't know how I missed that one. Guess I shouldn't be surprised- if it's an Apache, there's got to be some colorful story.

Different boat Rob.

I don't know the story on the 4X4 36' but if I had to guess I'd say that it happened at night and alcohol might have been involved...:hitfan:

how did the single step 41's compare to the non stepped in rough water and speed, why only 1 step, not 2 or 3?

They never made any single step 41's... Scott Grady, an owner of a 41 Apache took on the project himself and modified his original 41 and added a step.

To my knowlege, Bob Saccenti OR McManus never built any 41 or 47 boats with steps... However, Bob Saccenti did build several step bottom 36's, and then there was the 42 Chief.. ;) :party-smiley-004:

DirtyMoney 05-27-2008 12:11 AM

Saccenti built stepped New tech 41's and the chief.

Jim are you going to buy one of these now?

Why don't I just sell you my mold and you can put a step insert back in it?

You're probably right. I remember a long time ago Scott talking about the project and I just assumed he did it.
