OSO is crawling today?

OSO is crawling along at a snails pace today.

Anyone else seeing this?

All my other windows to the internet are flying at light speed.

Probably something to do with their move to the IB servers.

Chris Sunkin 06-09-2008 10:58 AM

I finally have a quite Monday morning in the office and the site isn't working. I felt a little like when the Truman Show went off. Now it's up and my phone won't stop ringing.

i love the morning wood, you gotta lean on the sink and do a hand stand to pee in the bowl... its easier to just pee on the wall and blame it on teh kid....

Yes, it is. It will be Tuesday again this time next week. Interestingly enough, yesterday was Monday. I hear they're having another Monday next week too.

It's easier to just sit down and piss like a broad. Be careful to lean forward or you'll stream out between the bowl and the seat- hard to blame on the kid when that happens.

There's a point in everyone's life where you're willing to surrender a bit of personal dignity for some convenience and practicality. Some of us get there sooner than others.

rainmn 06-11-2008 09:35 AM

Site was crawling again for me earlier this morning, seems to be getting back to normal again now. That's three mornings in a row now for me, when any other site was working fine.

And has anyone else noticed the occasional brief flash of another page while going from the forum list into a forum and vice versa? It's a white screen with some code on it. Comes up so fast it looks like subliminal advertising.

45sonic 06-11-2008 09:42 AM

Yes to all the above!

getchasum111 06-11-2008 09:58 AM

yes...i noticed that also...

Yep I notice it when i hit the back button. And the site has been slow for me the last 3 days also.

wantingmore 06-11-2008 10:59 AM

Ditto. Pizzed me off so I went to some other sites. IB, are you listening?

stecz20 06-11-2008 11:02 AM

yeah still slow....

TexomaPowerboater 06-11-2008 12:31 PM

Alright, I know they were changine servers because the whole website was down and thats the explanation that popped up instead of OSO. So I understand some problems, but every morning for the past few days its so slow you can't get on it. Now I can't navigate the site for 2 minutes before I get a "database error" on everything I click.......even the classifieds. You guys (oSO) need to get your chit together.

Yes, I get some sort of error juberish BS on top of the headers for a brief second and then it goes away.

fund razor 06-11-2008 03:33 PM

This is what it says:

Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated; If you would like to pass it by reference, modify the declaration of convert_bits_to_array(). If you would like to enable call-time pass-by-reference, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference to true in your INI file. in /var/www/www.offshoreonly.com/forums/forumdisplay.php(106) : eval()'d code on line 62

Here's what it probably means: the new servers are using a newer PHP (hypertext preprocessor, a server side open source programming language)
This little buddy is known as a call-time pass-by-reference, which PHP controls with the following setting in php.ini:

allow_call_time_pass_reference = Off

By default, in recent PHP releases the above setting should be switched to Off; turning it on is "frowned upon" by PHP's makers. Switched off, PHP will generate warning errors every time a function call specifies an argument should be passed by reference. As such, it's good practice to leave this setting off.

The reason why call time pass by reference is a "bad thing" is that call time passing by reference can make code extremely difficult to follow.

What it is supposed to do? Save time and memory on the server side.

wantingmore 06-11-2008 06:25 PM

Damn, Fund, you got all of that in a split second?

pullmytrigger 06-11-2008 10:11 PM

Our 18 and 21 yr old say our computer is the fastest one they've ever been on......I frequent two other car sites and a truck site and OSO is always the slowest and always has been......truth!

stecz20 06-11-2008 10:37 PM

BlackJack58 06-11-2008 10:43 PM

I liked the idea of subliminal advertising better when they just flashed a pair of boobs at you...

Yup .. PAINFULLY slow right now!!! 8:15 - 8:55am. Avatars delay and then pop in like 5-8secs++ after page itself finally loads ... and page loads taking more than a few seconds of clocking for each :(

This post (and then ~~edit~~) took over 40secs to finally punch through! I'm done for this morning can't take it ... check back in later

kennyo 06-12-2008 07:55 AM

Same sh*t today, I want my money back!

Everything is slowing down. Its the economy. Gas prices are even slowing down internet boating.

Chris Sunkin 06-12-2008 09:10 AM

It's a good thing the consummate professionals at Internet Brands took over this floundering, backwoods website. Their technical expertise has vastly outpaced anthing the rubes who used to run this joint could ever dream about.

IB had big talk when the takeover happened. Even though they had both feet on their johnsons on the announcement, alot of us wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm wondering now if they're able to pull anything off without a meltdown. This isn't their first website. You'd think they could either pull it together or job it out to someone who could.

fund razor 06-12-2008 09:27 AM

I smell a poof.

(A note to this thread: when you get to Poofland, say hello to Tim's decision thread. That was a good thread and it died so young.)
