I had the whole family in the boat and didnt want to turn around and there were other boats in the area helping out. I check it out with my binoculars and it went completely under and sunk. Just wondering if anyone heard anything about this and if there were any injuries? I had heard that it was a ciggarette boat and it flipped, but that's just word of mouth. There was a wonderful family that got to the scene immediately and apparently took the family to the municipal pier where they were met by emergency technicians and the Barnegat and state police. The family was taken to the hospital just to be certain everyone was OK. Greg Mount Laurel, NJ Reply » |Report Abuse |Judge it! |#3 Monday Hey, thanks. I appreciate it. I was nervous that there were more severe injuries. Do you know how it happened? Was it a ciggarette boat? Mary Roseland, NJ Reply » |Report Abuse |Judge it! |#4 Tuesday The guy took a sharp right, then attempted a sharp left and went over his own wake. Yes, it was a cigarette boat. Found out that the wife did have a fractured right leg I believe. http://www.topix.com/forum/city/fork...J7TCA9JA5BTLPM |
I'm glad you are all ok. Mechanical issue? that is the scariest thing that can happen. Take care of your family and don't worry about the speculators here.

Thank god you are all ok. There is nothing worse then having to defend yourself from a bunch of people making accusations with no clue of the truth.
Accidents happen, it is not always negligance. Again it is great to know for sure your family is ok. |

To all who are inquiring about the accident by Manahawkin Inlet. If you were not there I would appreciate the false accusations to stop. I was there and I was ejected from the boat and it was a very traumatic experience. My husband has driven a boat for over 25 years and is the most responsible person i know when it comes to boating. Whoever is giving you information is so unbelievably wrong its not funny. He doesnt even have the make, color or length correct. We were not doing crazy eights and were definetely not out of control prior to this. My children were on board and I would never allow that to happen on anyones boat never mind my own. We are all OK, thank god, just alot of aches and pains. Irene

i'm glad everyone is ok... i spent a few days with joe down at cobra putting his engines in, he's straight up guy i can't see him driving out of control especially with family on board... glad everyone is ok

JM,
Which part of my post has "bad information"?? What part of my post is gossip?? I reported what was told to me by witnesses-the people that rescued you! Your rescuers did tell me everyone appeared OK-maybe I should have included that in my post. Believe it or not, I'm glad no one was hurt!! |

If I was tossed out of a brand new 500K boat I wouldn't give a rat's azz who was telling the story but I would be pizzed off at the manufacturer/mechanic if it was a mechanical failure vs. operator error. |
i was on the bay sunday in a 39 outerlimits. water was average. how did this accident happen ? since those that are involved (jmbtile) are present could you please let us know what happened. i spend alot of time in both a 38 TS Gun and a 39 Unlimited, and would like to know if there is an issue with the boats or something mechanically wrong with yours specifically or was it just an accident...again glad all are OK and a horrible day im sure it was
|
from what im reading the people that pulled the crew of the boat in question from the water are the people that saw what happened and told Robert Geoghegan what they saw and he simply repeated what he was informed
|
i've known Robert for sometime and he IS NOT one of those that fabricates things...im sure if my boss told me what HE SAW i would take his word for it as well

Irene,
With all sincerety I am very very happy your family is safe and sound. When you feel up to it could you please give us an idea how this accident took place. I speant years on the bay in a Cafe Racer and now in my new boat if you could share any info that may save any of us from the same fate it would be greatly appreciated. Was it mechanical ?? Was it just an accident ?? I have heard that the step bottom V's could be wicked if you are ot completely used to them. Please understand this is not to point fingers but simply looking to learn from an experience of a fellow boater (unfortunately for you a horrible experience) in hopes to avoid any similar situation. Thanks in advance for your time, Patrick |

. Wow--that happens on this site too??? |
glad to hear everybody is ok

JM,
In hind site, I probably should not have repeated someone else's interpretation of the driving style. I apologize. The purpose of the post was to find out 1) Was it an "offshore" style boat (my boss thinks anything fast on the water is a Cigarette) and 2) Did I know the owner? 3) What happened. There has been almost 3,000 views of this post-so it appears others also have an interest in what happened. I also failed to tell everyone that all the kids were wearing PFD's. Again, I'm glad no one was seriously hurt! Bob |
Boy, reading this thread is very upsetting to me. As part of the OSO family, I read and was very interested in watching this boat complete it's transformation. The owner had invested alot of time and money in a dream project that any one of us would have been proud to do. And, he shared that with us with photos and comments. The finished project was incredible. And, now to see what has transpired..... I feel very badly for the family. I am glad that all are ok, but feel awful for their misfortune. I just don't know what to say..........

These things don't "just happen". That's a very sea-worthy boat- that leaves equipment failure and operator error. Please tell us what not to do. |

Accidents can be embarrasing/confusing whether its the operators fault or not. Maybe he hit something in the water, maybe a drive broke. If you want to learn how to drive a performance boat properly and learn "what not to do", Take Tres Martins class. He talks about being pitched from a boat, warning signs, what to do in that situation and how to avoid it.
Puit simply- I'm sorry they had an accident and it's great news that no one was badly injured. But the defensive "we didn't do anything wrong" with no other comment doesn't wash. |

He put so much work and care into it, it actually was annoying, but it made him happy and he deserves that. Once the insurance adjusters are done with it maybe we will have more answers. #1 everyone is ok #2 Holy Chit! This Cig just repowered bigtime. That mishap was quick! That's a shame. |
You should take your kids and hubby on a boat ride soon whether it a cruiser or cig just a small ride so they and you are not spooked forever. when I was 15 we were sking and hit another boat someone died, after a week my friends just about forced me into another boat and I WAS CRYING THAT WE WERE GOING TO HIT A ROCK OR BOAT or SOMETHING but after a while I cooled down it took a while for some of us to go sking again. now 35yrs later I am glad I didn't give up and I saved 2 girls 9 and 12 and there dad and 2 stupid freinds off buzzards bay cape cod in 95 if I hadn't stuffed my boat and got tossed out earlier and headed back to onset they would have drowned We got there right when it sank with no pfds on the kids so with a bad back and ribs I went swimming, but was pissed at the father I almost hit him, his nine yr old was rough shape I put the 2 girls in the cabin until the cg and I tide there boat to cg it was drifting cause the pals gave me a anchor line instead of a dock line:rolleyes: but other sport fishers had to see them taking water over as they passed a CC stopped and ask if we need help I was pissed [because of all the wakes from the SF ]and said yah wave down the other boats to slow down and someone call the CG while I was in the water .:rolleyes:Oh I was asked if I HIT THEM WITH MY CIGAR BOAT:rolleyes:. WELL GLAD YOU ARE ALL WELL PLEASE DON'T LET THIS SINK IN TO YOUR KIDS OR YOURSELF TAKE A FERRY RIDE JUST GET THEM OUT ON THE WATER THIS SUMMER AND IF YOU WANT TO TALK TO SOMEONE THAT BEEN THERE I WILL LISTEN CALL ME ARTIE AT 617 833 3327 IF I CAN HELP THANK GOD YOU ARE ALL RIGHT TAKE CARE.

Irene,
Thank God everyone on board is OK. The boat was beautiful, I had seen it a few times, as recently as Memorial Day. It can be fixed or replaced, your family can not. Thank you for clarifying the situation and please keep us informed as to what happened and also how you guys are doing. Tom Anselmi |
