When ever a shop takes your vehicle in it "Creates a Bailment" in simple words the shop is responsible for any losses or damage. When ever I take a customers boat in I make them take home "Anything not bolted down" or they have the option of at their expense ordering a storage pod and storing their junk and they keep the keys. I also give the boat a real intense go over with the digital camera paying special attention to"existing damage". I've had stuff stolen from customers boats. But the very next business day I was in contact with my insurance company to make things right. You should always check on the tech's insurance before you let them work on your boat. Specially if it's a service call in a marina. Tech messes up and catches your boat on fire and it spreads to other boats the lawyers will go after the insurance first and if there is no insurance they will go after the tech & YOU!
