33,000 serious powerboaters is alot of guys to piss off. Unfortunately that likely matters little to them. Their business model is built upon ambushing people who are unaware that these legal technicalities exist. Sea Tow is not a legitimate commercial marine salvor. They're not out there rescuing capsized 800-foot freighters and commercial fishing boats run aground. Lets be careful not to lump them in with the legitimate part of the industry and a very necessary resource.

This thread should be a sticky in the ripoff section.

I guess we are lucky they just charged us 3k to pump out a 20' SeaCraft at the dock.. Sis sunk it, they came by in a truck and pumped it out..

One more thing- saving boats is a serious business. I know incidents like this can really incense people. At the same time, you have to be very cautious about towing any craft- especially one without flotation. Towing a disabled boat with another boat- especially a performance boat of equivalent size- can be dangerous. Don't hard-tie to your cleats and have a big, sharp cutting instrument handy. If your tow goes down, it can easily pull you down- especially with a transom so close to the water.

Here another little tidbit I was informed of. It seems the VP at Sea Tow informed the racers that the $150 membership fee they forked out for sunday memberships are no good at organized events. that means they deliberately stole everyones money.

Thanks everyone for your comments .This was a very sad day to have been treated this way after we had such a great event !The entire weekend was a hit{Except the accident } and to have ended this by a couple of pirates the way they did to Richie is just B.S. !
The Law-suit will begin asap ! We have consulted with a couple of Maritime attorneys that were Sponsors of this event !Now Sea -Tow will pay for what they did to Richie,s boat !
If anyone has any photos /or videos Please lwet us know asap !We will need all the info; showing the facts !!
Sea-Tow Miami ,& Sea-Tow Key-Largo were invited by Me to assist our race boats for the races in exchange for sponsorship !We lived up to our deal ! WHAT HAPPENED TO THERES ????????

I do not want to debate the Miami topic, I have checked into the situaion and feel he did a good job and charged appropriotly for the services rendered. I would define the service as Recovery more than Salvage, but Salvage is the legally acceptable term, which is why it is used.

Please explain why you believe SeaTow was justified in trying to charge $8k when all they did was tow the boat the rest of the way. Actually, I dare you to, and I promise that I will use it as grounds for a criminal refferal to the US Attorney's office.

If SeaTow did nothing wrong, you have nothing to be afraid of...:drink:
