Default opinions please!

So yesterday we were cruising around, did a bit of wave jumping, but nothing to serious. stopped to go swimming and took a look at the front of the boat and found a piece of gel coat missing and a large spider crack. i know for sure we did not hit anything. right after it happened we pulled it out of the water. i was going to put some gel coat in the chip so that water would not get into the fiberglass so that we could run it this weekend in the poker run but the mechanic said that might void the warranty. can i put a piece of white duck tape over it and use it this weekend? or is it going to be fine without anything covering the chip? its above the water line btw. also, is this something that could possibly happen to the rest of the gel coat, or is it most likely just in that one area?

thanks guys,
Josh

Most likely just a void in the gel. Is it "hollow" where the chip is? If yes, just put a little gelcoat on it for the weekend then have someone fill it properly.

How big of a "spider crack" are you talking about? Pics poss?

There was a guy on Texoma with a brand new all white skater. Something must of happened cause he rode around with duck tape on the hull - at the waterline for atleast 2-3weeks. Must of hit a tree branch or something floating in the water. Just ducktape it and get back on the water.

Tape will still let water in.. Even if it's not salt water.. once it dries it will leave dust/dirt/crsytaline deposits in the cracks. It will be harder to fix right. I reccomend using some silicone caulks, or that romaovalb, pealable plastic you can get in the hardware stores. YOu can "seal it" temporary, use the boat, then remove it to have it fixed.. Just my .02
