(Instead of being forced into the spectator fleet like a bunch of unguided missiles....see Patchogue last Sunday...) I can't race in a professional class because I want to do stupid "wheelies" after my heat is over. I can't race in any class because I lease a "lawn dart". In truth many racers today.... "can't"....or "won't" race in any class that they might not win!!!!!! The simple truth is that a spec single engine vee class and a spec twin engine cat class is plenty for everybody. Depending on your budget you can probably afford one or the other. It means that you will actually have to race, and test, and setup for conditions just like every other motor racer on earth does. It means that when you win...you will actually have something worth crowing about...it also means that the majority of the competitors will NOT win....just like Olympic runners, gymnasts, and swimmers...and pro golfers.... and race car drivers.......and every other true sportsman..... It also means that you will have a sport that other people, aside from your extended family and friends, will actually understand and get behind. These are called "fans"...and they attract "sponsors"...who pay for "television"....which attracts more "fans"...which attract more "sponsors"...which attracts better "television". As the guy who announced this sport for TV longer than anyone and...... on higher level networks....I can assure you that regardless of my "obsolescence" ....... bracket racing will not get this done. "P" classes make sense as a start up series for future "pro" racers.... I get that...... But there is still far too many classes, far too many sanctioning bodies and far too much complication.... Until this is fixed....... the term 'World Champion" will remain meaningless in Offshore racing. T2x Reads better at top of page |
Big Daddy....so let me get this right....you race a few races and you did not want to race by yourself so you quite....what class and were did you race and when....and why did you quite....why did you just not move up in class....or move up to where there were boats....
T2x....hang on.... I'm with you on the spec class racing having to many class's...and I'm all for 4 or 5 spec class racing only and build a boat for the class....I'm all with you on that..I don't think big money teams should make up class's for there boats...but you came out to Patchoque and watch P-Class racing....not spec..except fot the Super Cats...without P-Class racing there would have not been a race in Patchaque last week....most of these teams are on a very small budget if no budget at all....so we better not abanded these small racers with no money.... In P-Class there are rules set and you build a boat to fit the class.... OPA HAS NO 1 BOAT CLASS'S IN P-CLASS... That's the funny thing....a small boat club from up North comes along and has the biggest boat count all year....and has the highest adverage boat count per class in P-Class in the country..... |

Jim...thats what I was posting about....guys like Daredevil are in P-Class and he is the only one in his class...so YES...they are talking about taking away a title from P-Class

So TX2...I read a prior post of yours....and I've heard you have been around for a long time and talk highly about you....So it sound like you think there are a lot of big money teams crying they all want it there way....Am I correct....

I DO AGREE that there are too many classes in OSS. We know OSS in NOT perfect and are working on doing the best we can in these tough times. OPA is doing a great job with there numbers and sites as well, I have said it before P-class racing is OK with me I did it but was not my cup of tea. This conversation should be people calling one person out it's about the whole state of the sport.
Everyone here has alot of heart into this , we all want it to succeed we just have different views on what success is and the road to getting there. |

I wanted to support Joey Imprescia, a close friend, although, I must say, I believe he belonged in a big cat. Also for the record, I found the racing boring...until the final spec race.. except for the fiasco in turn one when the class 2/3 boats all went barreling in out of control and bounced off each other like crazed pin balls....Exciting?...yes....Impressive?...not in the least...amateurish?....... you betcha. ( Not one...not two...but three...count 'em...three boats on plane in the MIDDLE OF THE SPECTATOR FLEET..... a very crowded spectator fleet I might add......... a truly bone headed moment in sports history... and, thankfully, not a tragic one.)
