The answer to post #425 by SS930 : A 30' Sonic w/ SBC & Alpha drives was the only boat that finished. App. 6 hrs 15 min. 4 - 5 other boats... DFN. The 27' MAGNUM'S that ran in the Bahama 500 back in the day proved they could run in big water !!! "HIGH LIFE"

Here is another important aspect of a rough water powerboat....Build Quality! Here is a 20 year old Kevlar 41 Apache racing in 1990 & 2010! Quite a testimony! Zul power back in 1990.....top shelf engine builder!

I don't know about Sutphen, but Apache uses kevlar, plus carbon fiber in the high stress areas. Amazing durability.
I was going to get into that recent build quality debacle concerning that beautiful looking powerboat that everyone (myself included) had such high hopes for......maybe another time, it's too depressing.

A little known fact before Apache was anything,Ben wanted Richie Sutphen to build the boats for him!! If you want to talk about standing the test if time the Carbon Fiber Epoxy Outerlimits will outlast anything.

I believe Ben aquired Mark from Don Aronow.

All I know is Ben approached Richie and wanted him to build the boats for him since Sutphen's are built so well and dominated racing.
