Smoke on the Water accident - Michael Scaffidi

Does anyone from the area know if they were able to identify the other body found in July of this Summer as him? They say in the article the unidentified body has been in the water at least two years by the decomposition. I think about that tragedy all the time since we saw it first hand. Just curious if they've been able to find him yet.

I'm sure they still do not have closure. But they're not going to be short of money. The money wouldn't bring closure, but serves a tremendous service by providing employment for lawyers and insurance companies.:food-smiley-007: Too bad that the kids suffer, though.

Are there any statistics on how many missing persons there are that were victim to Lake MI?

No aount of money is closure for a family menber or freind that has died!

marineclean 09-07-2008 12:21 AM

Hey dnebo,

Boat Me didn't explain his post, so I didn't know if you knew the story. It affected the charity for the kids and the fact that the lawsuits shut down SOTW. That annual PR raised thousands foe the local charity plus all the boater's would take the kids out on rides before the event.

Personally, I agree that NO amount of money will comfort a loss. It just really sucks that the lawsuits halted the annual money raised and that our fellowship at SOTW was affected.

AB From Windsor 09-07-2008 12:31 AM

Let's face it, when you enter these events there is always the element of danger and you except it, because you love it and think that nothing is going to happen. My heart goes out to the families who have lost a loved one in a Poker Run or Offshore Racing but that is what they chose to do for their enjoyment. It is very sad but I would never want my family to sue if something happened to me while I was doing something that I loved.

I would agree but if that is the case then why sue for millions ? To me that says they put a dollar amount on there loved one and it demeans there death

Marine Clean is correct
And if you were part of the suit you would have seen how at the end of the day it was only about money
Millions of dollars and it put an end to our event and all the money we raised for The Make A Wish Kids

So to me there closure came in the form of millions of dollars
sad but true

Edward R. Cozzi 09-07-2008 10:06 AM

I just don't understand lawsuits.

I can understand wanting to "punish" someone or some company that messed-up and CAUSED an accident where a loved one perished, but to destroy an organizer or sanctioning body from a self-contained accident unfortunately probably due to a split second error in judgement, seems unfair to me. How do you feel you have money coming?

Tells me something about the legal system.

The day of this Judgment was a very sad day in the American Judicial System .:(

More to come

Lake Texoma's lawsuits are just getting up to speed as well as the accident with the Powerboat Helicopter during photos shoots

More lawyers swarming around those

If there is an accident the insurance does not just pay the expenses and cover damages the lawyers always go for limits of liability because it is a payday for the attorneys

Gaurenteed money of some amount

First I heard of this, and I sincerely don't want to bring up bad feelings. However am I understanding this correctly. A guy buys a new OL, rolled it with no other boat involved, during a poker run, and the family sued? I guess I ask who did they sue, and under what grounds?? Was boat defective? Was the water Defective?
