If I was in the market for a used 37, I'd be all over this.

Good luck Mike.

I didn't state or imply AT was involved in this - just happens to be the offering in the raffle.
TSPM - good luck, I hope it works out for both you and the winner.

I just know, on my budget, I could afford the 1K it takes to enter the game, but not what it would cost to keep playing with that much boat if I got into it.

Under $600 to outfit it??
I thought according to this board if you didn't have life-lines for vests you didn't really care about yourself or your passengers safety.
You can only afford one on that budget - and it's not CG approved.
Plan on going boating alone with no lines, fenders, CG safety gear, adequate tow-vehicle, etc...

All I'm saying is I couldn't afford to win it.

Sounds like the boating market is so far in the tank that you'll do anything to move inventory.
Sorry to be brutally honest - just what I see from this perspective.
Don't mean to be a dikhead - just an opinion.
Good Luck.

Good Luck TSPM. I think it's a pretty cool idea if it works. Not sure why all the negativity on this thread.

Yeah some NEGS but most POS on a COOL / GOOD idea so lets move forward :drink:

Harvey 09-08-2008 08:24 PM

raffle

You should sell tickets for $100.00 to $250.00 each and advister for 30 to 60 days. They did that on here a couple years ago for a race boat. Sell more tickes and give more people a chance to win. If you don't sell enough give the money back. A !,000 is kind of steep for the average working boater.

sommerfliesby 09-08-2008 09:26 PM

Hmmmm.......

yss 09-08-2008 10:02 PM

It's a great idea and I would buy a ticket if some legal questions were more clearly answered. From personal experience I know that having a raffle for anything is difficult to accomplish legally.

"Regarding raffles
Raffles contain all three elements of an illegal lottery, yet in many states they are permitted if they are conducted by nonprofit entities that use the proceeds for educational or charitable purposes. Where legal, raffles are subject to far more extensive regulations than are sweepstakes or contests of skill. An organization seeking to conduct a raffle typically must register in advance and obtain a license from the state. The license fee itself can be substantial, particularly in states where the fee is a percentage of the net proceeds generated by the raffle."

This also caught my eye - not because of the poor spelling.

"Affliates from Active Thunder Boats and Tri State Performance Marine are not elligable to enter."

If AT isn't involved why can't someone who might be affiliated w/ them buy a raffle ticket?

We are looking at that as well.....our goal was to keep the odds near or at 1 in 100. at 250.00 your now at 1 in 400 which is still not bad.

Input please ???

From what info we gathered yes.

AB From Windsor 09-09-2008 08:50 PM

$1,000.00 for a chance to win a $100,000.00 boat. Sounds good to me, 1 in 100 chance to win. Unfortunately my wife doesn't think so. If you drop the price am in and I don't mean $999.99, $100.00.

Need-the-Speed 09-09-2008 09:08 PM

I have come to realize the sad truth of this situation is the fact that I could buy 98 tickets AND STILL NOT WIN. My luck (if you can believe it) is almost as bad as Gino's.

Dean Ferry 09-10-2008 05:43 AM

good luck, just another sign of the times. BTW, @ a $1000, it's too rich for my blood.
Dean

Harvey 09-10-2008 08:45 AM

raffle

Drop the price to $ 250.00 and I'll buy. I always buy tickets up to $ 100.00 and I've never won anything. I've bought for cars, planes, jet ski, 20 years worth of lottery tickes, I have every lottery ticket saved in a box. But $ 1000.00 is out of my price range. But I'll take a chance at $ 250.00.

OK .... well this seems to be the general feeling we are getting from all directions. We will extend the event to Thanksgiving Day and the ticket pricing will be dropped to 250.00 each. You can buy as many as you want. The odds will also change to 1 in 400 which is still very good. :drink:

because there's ALWAYS someone wearing a wet blanket around here. The nice thing is that they are seldom the audience something like this is intended for. I mean, TSPM is trying to have a fun raffle, and people are generalizing it to the idea the industry is so bad that they have to do this......unbelievable.

I'm not shopping for a convertable V6 Mustang either, but if I win one next week in Vegas, I'll damn sure find something to do with it instead of compllaining about it! :drink:

The few that have bought tickets and are officially in the barrel have great odds.

I'm going to call you on Monday to buy my ticket. Yes it would be a dream, to win something as beautiful as that Active Thunder for me. I think that you have to advertise it more. When I was looking for it on the General Boating Discussion Forum I had to go to another page to find it. It has to be on the first page every day for everyone to see it and remind them about it and that a ticket is only $250.00 NOW and there is a 1 in 400 chance to win. Good luck to all.

fund razor 09-14-2008 07:51 AM

The chance depends on the number of tickets sold. I am the license holder for a $180,000 raffle in Mich and have held raffles in Ohio. (We have to have a raffle license here.) I just don't solicit OSO members. NOT saying that TPSM shouldn't be, it's a boat after all.

I find that the ticket sales DO increase as the raffle gets closer.

It will be interesting to see how the numbers go. I may be inclined to buy a ticket, but I would need to see the published rules.
(Time and date of drawing, who is excluded, taxes and other liabilities assumed by the winner, how they will be notified, when it needs to be picked up, how will transfer of ownership go down and where. All the regular stuff.)

damdonzi 09-14-2008 09:33 AM

I'll second that. Publish the rules/ terms and conditions and change the name of this thread and I think you'll see uptake on this very quickly.

DareDevil 09-14-2008 10:10 AM

To me,
this all sounds like a SCAM.

399 people send 250 bucks and all of the sudden your best friend wins the boat.
Or your wife or so.
Now you made 100 K and still have the boat.

Good idea though. LOL

OH man thats what is going to kill this, statements like that, what ever happened to trust in a mans word? I hope it all works out and I would be one of the first to buy tickets if I could. Just let it happen and have fun with it.

raytart 09-14-2008 10:48 AM

Put me in for at least 1 ticket, maybe 2.

Exactly! We all know TSPM as they are an advertiser here. I doubt he would let this happen. I might just buy a ticket. If I win I will sell it to a club member who would love to own an AT...for a song. And make a killing! Even after taxes.

I guess that's why they make us have a license up here, have public drawings and have our records available to the state. They did visit once. I was ok, but they made me do a separate daily deposit for the raffle so that the raffle funds were not co-mingled with daily monies. We have to track volunteer hours, costs, and file full reports with the state.

I trust TPSM, but like any other fiduciary arrangement, I like to base my decision on the terms of the deal rather than a person's past reputation.

I wouldn't put a check in the mail on faith. Especially for something that I read online. Would anyone?

But my luck is even worse. One of these days we need a thread about bad luck. I'll bet I win.. But with my luck.. I'l be second. But.. I'm in for a shot or two.
