Default Imco shorty's on a Formula 382?

I'm posting this for a friend. He started a thread in the Formula forum and hasn't gotten any responses on that. Anyone?? See below:

382 with imcos 2" shorties

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anybody done this with 500 with no boxes and gen, how do you think it will run? Because I have a buddy that needs drives and can buy those drives cheap, I know they have low water pickups only but it is a twin step.

How is BobbyB's boat setup? I know its a lighter race boat, but I am sure its had several iterations tried on it. He may be of some help.

Call Formula TAG...they seem to be able to answer any question I've thrown at them, maybe they've already tried it? (but I doubt it)

I would be surprised if it worked,Jeff wagoner (wags382) on here has a 382 w/warmed over hp 500's. Its making close to 600 hp on the dyno. He tried various props including labbed 28's,30's and maximus props. His boat went slower with the labbed 28's and 30's then it did with std 28's which would lead me to believe going up-2 would probably have a negative effect,if his boat slipped too much with labbed props, how would it ever work with drives moved up ( he never tried the shorties for this very reason) Smitty

I think Formula sets there X pretty agressively. Even with the Stellings box option, they only raise the X dim up 1 inch.

I think it would be a waste of time and money. Formula has put extensive research into these hulls and have the most efficient X-dimension worked out. If it was of benefit, every race hull that ran when they had a very successful F-2 campaign would have a raised X-dimension. Stellings boxes will only gain 1-2 mph on a 382 hull at best.
