In Trouble
I realize this has nothing to do with boating, well maybe it does because if I screw this up it could be a long time before any boating happens. But here goes. The wife and I will be married for 4 years tomorrow. She had a great idea of a max gift of $20 bucks. Guys I’m drawing a blank here and I need some help on this. Do you guys have any ideas.
|
$20 bucks, yea right. Do you really think that $20 bucks will make her happy? You can't buy a dozen roses for $20 bucks. I have been married for 31 years and even as nice is my wife is to put up with my sorry azz, $20 bucks would never cut it!
|
I'm really trying to stay with HER idea of it meaning more if it comes from the heart (stupid women) It would be much easier to buy something. I'm clueless
|
Go to one of those "Things Remembered" stores in the mall and get a nice picture frame with something sappy engraved - then slip a picture in there - oh, and get a nice card, broads love that.
Or just ignore the 20 dollar limit!!!! |
A card with somethng personal written in it works wonders with my GF. Couple it with a massage kit or bath kit.
|
half a tank of gas :D
Whatever you do, don't forget a very thoughtful card!!!! :) post up in the off topic section or "Bilge Forum" see what responses you get. You can definitely find something for about $20. take a trip to the mall, you'll be able to find something. Things to Remember store is a good start. Maybe flowers??? 1800-flowers not exactly ideal but hey just throwing idea's around, its sweet and simple. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...play.php?f=117 |
Get her a $20 certificate to Logan's and go out to eat!
|
For 20 bucks, I could but a nice bottle of wine, some cheese & crackers & spend a quiet evening out back with a couple logs in the fireplace. Candles in the garden, etc Plus, I'd do some things like making sure the house was straightened up- things that are out of charachter for me.
Or- a picnic lunch and a walk in the park one nice Saturday afternoon. Whatever it is, it needs to be out-of-charachter for you. Yeah, this crap sounds semi-gay, but it works. My 21'st is this Friday and I've bailed myself out of some deep $hit over the years with stuff like this. Judging from the boat you have listed in your profile, you could probably drop a couple grand on her and she wouldn't blink. The $20 idea is bait for you to do something out of the box. Don't fail. |
|
The boat is a almost done deal. So I really can't screw this up. I swear she did this before the boat thing was done so I had to really think
|
I'm 38 never been married so dont take this advice as I've never been to the dark side...:party-smiley-004: J/K... But I have to agree with Chris it sounds like you have a nice life, reading your profile (?) congrats by the way, dont buy her a card, make her one, cut flowers instead of buying them, do as much as "you" can for her without spending any of the money or as little as possible, then put the change in the envelope and tell her you spent exactley what she told you to do/spend!!
I should take some of my own advice.......:evilb: Good Luck, Pat |
Get her a 30 pack!!!!!:ernaehrung004::ernaehrung004:

You wanna make her happy? Take the $20 bucks and make her something. It could be as stupid as a posterboard sized card and candy to something difficult like a bird house or a swing for the backyard.
You think she let you off easy with the $20... She is testing you. Don't screw this up!:drink: |
|
When they say $20.00 they mean $200.00. My wife told me she wanted nothing for her birthday once. I asked multiple times if she was sure, yes was her answer. So........thats what she got. Big mistake. Go with your Gut on this one. If you normally spend more than $20.00, I would continue that. Easier to justify that position as past practice. You know her better than us.

As cheesy as it may sound to us guys, Chris, Spicy, and Xrated have hit the nail on the head I think. Shes looking for you to come up with an idea from the heart that cant just be "store bought". One of the best ideas Ive used is the flower thing. Go to a craft store and buy yourself some colored tissue paper and some green pipe cleaners and make her a vase of flowers. Then get yourself some candles and a make a nice sappy card. Chicks dig that stuff. You may have to put your masculinity aside for 20 minutes while you make the flowers and card, but it will be worth it later that evening. Good luck :ernaehrung004:

Sounds to me sunkin and spicy got it right. May seem stupid or sappy to you , but the lady's love that stuff.
|
I did the "she doesn't mean $20, she means $2K" thing one Christmas. Backfired big-time. I showed up with trinkets from Tiffany's on Christmas eve. She made me a card & baked me cookies. And cried for two days. She wouldn't even open anything after the first two.
Sometimes these tests are hard. You've been married to her for 4 years- you should have been paying attention. :) |
$12.95 and you will still have enough for a fifth of cheap liquor, now is the time to make this "your day" :) Good luck.

OOOPPHHH.....
I feel for you guys. My wife and I have to remind each other the date of our anniversary. No Joke, I had a sticker in the window of my last truck that had our wedding date on it - just so I would remember to mention it. It helped ingrain it into my mind. It'll be five yrs Nov. 24. She usually can't remember if it's the 23rd or 24th. We never get each other anything. Not for anniversaries, b-days, Christmas... nothing. Usually, if we want something, either one of us, and we can afford it, we go out and buy it. If we can't afford it, we save for it if we've justified the want/need/desire with each other. It makes it very simple. Have I ever mentioned how lucky I am to be married to her? |

Get her a bunch of things worth in and around $20...then your staying over her "Price per gift quote" yet she still gets some surprises
|
After a while, you get past that stuff. Mine bought me a Valentines card about 10 years ago. Sometime in the following summer, I found it in her glove box- she'd forgotten to sign it and give it to me. Every year after that, she tells me "Happy Valentines day! It's still in the glovebox". That joke is better than all the cards you could buy.
|
Good Luck!!!!!!!:party-smiley-004:

'In Trouble' - yes you are.
Yep, my vote is with Spicy & Sunkin, Something personal from you. |
Musical Card find a Anniversary card that has a great song on it that relates to you and her. My wife and I have been married 25 years we still fell like newlyweds because of things like your wife ask you to do. My wife got me a musical card once and I still cherish it. Money is not every thing picking the right $20 gift takes a lot of thought. The musical card works with a Cheap bottle of wine and inside the card write, (This card is good for one full body massage w\ or w\o oil. ) This will be something you both can enjoy.
Body paints and a cheap bottle of wine works pretty well also. Dinner and a deck of cards. The cards are for strip poker. Wear lots of cloths and jewelry it prolongs the fun. Take her out to dinner than go for a midnight cruise and use the sun pad on the boat wisely. P.S. Remember to kiss and tell let us know. |

go with chris sunkin's first post. I've been married 13 yrs. it dosen't matterif you spend've 20 or 9k, I've done both they're still happy the same amount of time. maybe spend 40 to 90 on a really good bottle of wine. I think chris nailed it for cheap.

Take the $20.. make a "small" picture of the OL... in your wallet it goes.
Take one of the nice pictures of her, blow it up.. like a 2'X 3' in the walet it goes.. During dinner or whatever.. . during gift exhange moment.. take them out.. tell her that she is your "first love, only love, and bigger.. larger love" You show your boat off. lol (we all do) but you show her off even more.. Good luck bro.. |
Give her 20 one dollar bills and strip for her
|
T-backs from Victoria Secret! They usually have a bin full of t-backs for sale. Get one of each color! She will love it! :D
