I don't know what they raced, but I thought it was APBA, because there were APBA stickers all over it, and the crests in front of the drivers were the Apba high points championship crests. I was at our OSO gathering saturday and the owner/designer of Redline was there with Viscious One, and sunday I was at Viscious One's shop with Milord and there were some engineering drawings of a 40+ Redline hull from back in the day that never was produced, but it was really cool seeing that there were plans for this boat. It had sweet lines that's for sure! There's a ton of cat history all around this area, Ocean express, Awesome, Redline, and the Viscious boats are all built within 10 minutes of where I live, and Skater is about 1 1/2-2 hour drive away. It's definitely cat territory around here. I've never heard of a redline with inboards, I wonder how many of them were made like that? I know there were not many redline's made in total, just never knew of inboards in one.

2001 DCB Mach 26, blown 510, 104 on gps. Still playing with props after a gear change. hoping to see 110 this season.
|
There was only one 28' redline built with i/o's Ken Taylor that works for me now built that boat and set the engines in it . We where just talking about that boat, they built a one off custom rear deck for the shoe horn fit of the motors!
|
28 I/O
This boat went through drastic changes in the few years it raced. It was built by John Peterson from key West. It had twin F-16 canopies on it. Origanally it had some race car guys motors in it which weren't very good in the marine app. Then they switched to UNITED who built great motors. If I remember correctly the rear deck was raised after the first season of racing. At one point they also put beaks on this boat to allow them to beef up the engines for the C class. The boat was first called America's Paradise then Change Order. The boat ran well in calm water very fast for the class but was balanced terribley for rough water. It can be seen on the intro to all the Freeze Frame tapes with the bow to the sky. This was the first paint job I designed while still in high school. Last I heard the bnoat was in Jacksonville Florida. This boat MIGHT run well with 2 or 3 Outboards.
|
Hey Rayn
That boat is here in Jax,it has been changed to twin outboards and my cousin has one of the motors and a friend has the other. The boat is about two miles from my house, the only time I have seen it out of the back yard was at Christmas when Pat put it out by the road and lit it up with Santa in the drivers seat.it has 2.5os's on it now.
|
That was it Pat I met him at Wylies shop. He bought and sold lots of boats. Does it still have canopies? How does it run with the 2.5's. If you see him tell him Ryan Beckley said hello.

My gps showed 101 at the Shoot out last year so I guess that makes me a member.http://hometown.aol.com/valakoraceheads/page8.html |
Looks good, Jim. Hope you bring it to Great Lakes Marina this year. I'd like a ride in Muskegon Lake.

Thanks for the kind words about the Team Catastrophic Redline. We've made a lot of changes to get it to handle like it does. The boat offically ran 115.7 mph in NC back in 2000. As much as it pains me to say this, she's For Sale. Anyone interested in a very competitve race boat give me a call. w(248)449-4177 h(810)751-6986

VICIOUS ONE
I run a similar package to your's, with similar speeds. What props do run now? what props are you going to try? I'm using 15x34 but hitting the rev limiter. |
I'm running 15.25x32 3 blades I'm want to put on 15x34 3 blades , What kind of hull? Weight? Power? are you running?
|
Vicious One
I have a 30ft motion cat with twin canopies andfour seats. I don't know the weight, but it's all kevlar and foam so it's fairly light. Just four sparco seats and a balsa console. Twin 300 pro maxs 5in. set back 15x34 3bl cleavers 1+7/8 in up from bottom. With one half fuel and four people it runs105mph with two people same fuel 109mph in fresh water never been in salt.Still learning to drive this boat, very sensitive to trim. I am installing indicators for this season. This rig planes well but when it hooks up not much accelration till about4000rpm. still at top speed it's on the rev limeters only 5900-6000rpm. Speeds from GPS. |
I have a couplea v-hulls 32 ft long with 2.5 Mercs on each one...and they BOTH do 100mph +.
|
Vicious One,
Ya it's me. The amout of traffic this web site get's is amazing. How's biz? I'll try to stop by next time I'm in the area. Packinair, Glad to hear the goods arrived at their destination. Let me know when it's together and we'll start the tuning. eMotiondriver, Several things contributed to us taking time off after the 2000 worlds: lack of $, lack of time, 3rd kid... to name a few. |

Not quite 100 but still respectable,
I've seen 5600-5700rpm's with 1.36's and 28 B1's in this boat. I know it wasn't quite 100 because we were racing Vicious1 and he was pulling away (later he said 101-102 on his GPS). Hello Curt , welcome to the board, be careful it is an addiction :D |
2002 28' Profile Cat 750 HP Imco 2" lower unit and a labbed 36 four blade minus the difuser ring = 108 mph with a 1/4 tank of gas and about 1/2 -1 foot chop.

There was a time when the 100 mph club was someting special. No factory supplied boat would touch that speed. The only way to get there was lots of inovation and hard work.
Times have changed. Now anybody can buy a 100+ boat with full factory warrantee. From a 19' STV with a bone stock 280 (105 anytime) to a 34 DCB with twin 900's (130 anytime). I am not saying that is a bad thing - just that the anti has been upped. It has been a while since I have seen any boating event (not race) where 100 would even get you in the top group. Takes 120 or you might as well stay home. Personally 1st 100 mph - 1981 19' Sanger flatbottom - 106 thru the traps. Fastest - 1996 31' Warlock - T53 Lycombing Turbine - 128 radar. Latest - 19' Liberator - 340hp 2.5 Merc w/200hp NOS - just going in the water so ? but 100 should just be a number to pass in a hell of a hurry. Fastest ride - 170+ with Howard Arneson. An incredible experience. Been lucky enough to take this ride a couple of times. LT |
25 daytona..106mph 509/bravo1 888hp
I don't need anymore speed:rolleyes: |

I had it on GPS this summer at 153MPH with a pair of 1000 HP Bandit engines. Over the winter we built a pair of 1500 HPs. Hope to water test in two to three weeks.
|
You guys are awesome! I never expected this number of responses. Now I'm thinking I'd like to catch a ride in a 100 mph boat just one time to say I've been there. It's got to be on smooth water though.
|
Crazy horse , where you from ? Head over to Jersey for "Skaterfest " There is nothing like it anywhere else ! If you ask nice you could take your pick of boats to ride in many of which will cruise at over 100 ! I hope to be there with my 39' express cat .If you or any body else is there look me up for a ride . Just ask ,anytime ! :D JOE

Oh , and when your in a big ass cat , all the water is smooth !

There have been alot of fine people who lost their lives getting above that speed. Through their efforts, and sadly their loss, we have any number of factory showroom boats that regularly exceed 100 MPH and bring the occupants back safey time and again. If any of you can make it to any of the Unlimited races this season, (Hydroprop.com for schedule) look me up, I'd be pleased to get you pit passes and show you our equipment. Take care, Steve David U-6 Miss Madison/O Boy! O Berto |
My wife and I had the chance to ride in a 36' Specre with twin fire-breathin', blown, Billy Bad Ass motors at Lake Tahoe (6000' elevation) last year. The owner (Board Member "Tunnelvision") was breaking in a new drive and didn't want to push it much past 4000 RPM, and we still broke 103MPH!! He said the boat will turn 7000 rpm all day long at sea level. LOVE IT - NEED IT - GOTTA HAVE IT!!!!!
Tim & Cheryl, if you are on the board ...................... THANK YOU AGAIN!! It's still all we talk about! |
SteveDavid
I have only dreamed of a resume like that........................ Way to go!! |
Not 100, but whoa! In 1985 I had a 16' Laser (from Roark Summerferd) w/200 Evinrude, bullet lower unit, transom jack, cockpit cover with a cutout for the driver, foot throttle, trim in the wheel. 87 mph on radar. A Scary ride. I'm proud to say I never flipped it.:D

I have a 25' Eliminator Daytona that runs 127 MPH:D :D :D:D
