24 Skater, twin 225 Pro Max motors, 14.5 X 30 Merc Labbed props, just re-jetted (I have the Carbs off my old 2.5's and bolted 'em to 2000 225's), prio to re-jet was low to mid 90's. I was shy by about 1000 RPM's soi am hoping this will put me inteh century club!

fred 03-07-2002 10:15 AM

Hey Crazy....the Scarab's been almost 100........you are counting on the trailer rigs....right???? hehehehehe......Fred....is Barb feeling better?

Ryan Beckley 03-07-2002 10:18 AM

ummmmmm......NO

Sorry Rob,
The bare hull un rigged MIGHT weigh 1900lbs. A super light weight 28 skater weighs in at more than 3000lbs ready to run. That boat was NEVER world champion nor has it ever beent to the APBA or SBI worlds. Redlines ARE Nice and fast though.

Advantage_Rob 03-07-2002 10:37 AM

Well Ryan, I'm going off the weight I was told from the builder, which is local to this area, FYI the redline hull is an ocean express knock off, go check oceanexpress.com and read the 1300lb weight of the hull on the 25 before you go too far into this. My hull is a slightly stretched 25 with a lightweight layup. The Championship data comes from brochures I have from the apba Silver cup series, and the full page Team extreme ad, looking for additional sponsorship with all of thier credentials, including two divisional, and a national championship, with pic's of my boat in rqace trim, so you can dispute the advertisement, cuz thats where my info comes from. I might have the year wrong, I thought it was 94, maybee 93 not positive cuz I havent looked at that booklet in a few years. So if I'm wrong dont casterate me, I'll get a scan of the race pamphlet and post it, If Its improper I'm wrong, but I dont think it is. All I know is cat's are the way to go fast, but I'd prefer a 35-40' cat next time. The graphics were totally different back in it's racing days, and there was a race hatch, so it looks totally different now then it did when I bought it. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything either, I'm sure you know alot more about it than I do.I never even followed racing till 99.
I know, it's not a skater, but I'm ok with that:p

Crazyhorse 03-07-2002 12:26 PM

Fred. Barb's still sick as a dog. Drove the porcelain bus all Tuesday night. She's feeling a little better but still down for the count. Any word on the sale of the 30?
Great looking boats in this thread, guys. It's got to be a rush at 100 or more!

Strike 03-07-2002 12:42 PM

30' Specre

It is for sale and like new! $98,900

fred 03-07-2002 12:45 PM

Dave sorry to hear Barb's still sick,...there is some crap going around that hangs on for awhile...a few of my workers from the shop have had it and been out a few days,....I am supposed to be getting a down payment this week on the Scarab....I'm getting nervous....last I talked to him it was supposed to happen this week....his son just closed on a house and he had to drop some cash on him also, I'll try to contact the buyer tonight and get the scoop,....Fred

Crazyhorse,
100 is alot faster on a small cat than a big one, I've been 100+ on viscious one's 32 Viscious cat and it's alot more relaxing than my 26 redline, and I've been 100+ on a few 33 and 39 Ocean express, the 39 is a walk in the park, you wont even spill your drink, well almost. Here's a pic of a friends boat, he's not an oso member, but an occasional lurker, but it runs just under 110. Awesome ride though, 110 and no worries in this 40 hustler. It's in the hustler for sale section, and the twin 1000's sound is so awesome. There are a ton of fast v-hulls on lake st clair, and alot of cats, mostly ocean express, and awesome's but a few eliminators, skaters, and a really cool looking all white apachae cat, and a few redlines, and I see alot of race boats out testing during the week. It always brings a smile to my face when I'm home and hear the scream of something going fast!!

ssherman 03-07-2002 01:03 PM

When it was last in the water 102 mph on my 99 32 Active thunder v-hull 500hp's with prochargers at 5-6psi my previous boat a 28 skater it averaged 107 (i think from memory) in the worlds in Biloxi in 97 ( I think the timing gear is wrong though because I think the boat would only hit 104 or105 tops it was more for rough water) As for Fastest I have ever been is in Al Burn's 40 Skater called Out of Control on lake Meade last summer 153 mph (gps) what a rush.

skatermike24 03-07-2002 01:29 PM

Been there a few times with the Skater:p

Dean Ferry 03-07-2002 03:38 PM

My previous boat was a 24' Elimnator Daytona w/ 2x 2.5's EFI "Massaged" by John Bishop @ "Smilin Jacks" Marina in Jupiter Fl. The best MPH I saw in it was 106-108. The fastest I have ever been is 117 MPH in a 25' Talon.
MD

36spectre 03-07-2002 03:45 PM

Runs over 150MPH, but I as yet don't know exactly how fast. Otto

Ted Zoli 03-07-2002 05:36 PM

Ryan you have forgotten more than i know about the boats that have competed, but i thought we ran against a Redline named Speedco or Speed-something in the 2000 worlds. It ran and handled well whatever it was.

Does this count? I still had about 25mph left.

BLOWN 1100 03-07-2002 08:07 PM

Under perfect conditions 114 on radar, 110 anytime. Twin 1100's
in a non step Fountain

KAAMA 03-07-2002 09:53 PM

That 40' Hustler is B...B..B.BBAD!!!

Ryan Beckley 03-07-2002 11:18 PM

Didn't mean to offend!

Rob, I am pretty sure that your boat won the central division championship a time or two. I am POSITIVE that that particular hull never won the worlds though. Just for comparision I believe my 24 Skater to be in the 3000lbs range rigged.
Ted, I raced the Speed-Co boats at the worlds a couple of years ago. It was owned by Dave Thomas of SpeedWear, it is a 28 SKATER. The boat you are thinking of was Catastophic a 28 RedLine out of Mich. two very nice guys ran it. It was the only thing even close to as fast as a 28 Skater, it made a Kilo pass in NC at over 115.

Ted Zoli 03-08-2002 08:27 AM

That was it Ryan...my memory (such as it is) is refreshed.

I meant to grab that race brochure last night, but forgot. The Catastrophic boat is local to this area, it was built after mine, and has a rounded winshield, where as mine is more squared off. and I think his is a 29 footer. 26scarab from this board is a friend of the owners, and has been on a few thrill rides in the boat. I have met the owner of the boat at Viscious one's shop in the past, and he's a real nice guy. It was wierd seeing another redline, there's not alot of them out there. Here's a pic of Catastrophic from GLSCS web site.

Crazyhorse 03-08-2002 03:18 PM

You guys are addicted to speed! I see quite a few of you are running hard with outboards.

Advantage_Rob 03-08-2002 03:35 PM

I really like the outboards, easy maintenence, easy to work on, cheaper to fix, and alot cheaper to rebuild. here's a fast recipie:

(1) light cat
(2) eggbeaters
Mix thoroughly until windburnt!!

Reindl Powerboats 03-08-2002 07:28 PM

We did a 24 with a 600 that did well over 100. That is the smallest boat I have ever thought of doing over 100 in.

Crazyhorse 03-08-2002 07:49 PM

Hey JimV, has the Fountain broken 100?

46tomcat 03-08-2002 07:51 PM

seen 160 with small wheels and large spacers hopfully over 170 this summer had 3/4 fuel and five with 160 not so bad for a old guy!!!!

khadley 03-08-2002 08:51 PM

98 33 daytona 106 mph last year this year?:D :D :D

KCHOTBOAT 03-08-2002 11:43 PM

I should be back in the 100 MPH club soon. My HTM sr-24 ran 100.2 with a ProCharger with a sick 502. I now have a 540 and plan on adding a blower if I can work out the details on the price.

jdnca1 03-09-2002 09:55 AM

2000 Carrera 257, 109 mph on the squeeze, 100 mph natural, 101 mph when its 60:cool:

packinair 03-09-2002 04:18 PM

I have talked to Kurt with the catastrophic boat many times, I baught the old 2.5's that he had on it to put on mine. he is amazing with the technical setting up of a cat. he figures :t(86)*4Y+74G%<-94/X then says, raise the motors 2.7 inches.. as soon as I get mine back from eagleone in FL I am taking it straight up to him so I can get mine to run faster than 47mph;) I hear a roumor that his boat might be for sale. it is a SWEET boat

blueamerican 03-10-2002 09:44 AM

I have been a member of the APBA 100 MPH club since 1976, like Strike it was in a hydro. A 20' Sooy 7-litre, did 138.9 at New Martinsville, WV. My present 26' AO runs @108.

straycat 03-10-2002 10:54 AM

Just trying to go faster. Currently 31 Awesome Thundercat w/ merc 600SC @ 11-12 lbs boost 117 on gps. ran out of room and good fuel so I gotta wait on the chillers and extention boxes to tweak the last few mph out. By the way anybody know of ext boxes around? appreciate any help.

regardless of the correct history you have a Sweet boat Rob!

Troutly, as I said in an earlier post, my boss swears by his +100mph STV w/2.5 Merc. He's been trying to get me to ride with him for 7 years. In all that time he's never had any problems. Merc 2.5 must be a heck of a motor.

Hey Ryan here's the picture from the St Clair river race brouchure with the Redline in race trim with the 93 national championship in thier sponsorship ad. This is where I got my info, like I said I never followed racing till a few years ago.

Ryan Beckley 03-14-2002 09:44 AM

Huh?
I knew they never won the worlds. The national championship must have been in the Old US offshore. Still a very cool boat. Some friends of mine had a 28 Redline with small blocks in it.
