Default low and high gear?

Looking at a boat with a #6 on it and the description says it has a low and high gear?

I didnt see a clutch pedal

So Im assuming this is something that you chose the gear before you select the rotation of the drive? Im not familiar with these.. Do they "shift" at a certain RPM?

Whats the advantage of this? It seems like youd come off plane if you lowered your RPM by shifting to a higher gear at speed..

two main reasons for using 2 spd boxes. One, BIG PROPS and docking. Low gear allows engine to idle while slowing down the prop. Two, low gear allows a motor pulling a big prop to come into its torque cure much easier for planing purposes.

It could be that the boat comes with two gear sets for the #6. A high and low gear set. You will, of course, have to take apart the drive to change them.

It is possible the boat has a two speed transmission not the drive. It would be an electronic shifting tranny possibly made by B&M. Not the most reliable transmissions. Best thing is ask the seller for details.

We have been developing a two speed tranny. The first set has been in Freedom US1 46 Skater. Great for parking!!! Things are looking good. We ran them at the Chicago poker run and LOTO. I can't break them!!! We will start taking orders for them in Sarasota, Speed Shift Transmission is the name of the company. Come to Sarasota this weekend a check them out!! 316-648-2414 Thanks, Jim Lee
