I was only looking for 1200 hp. I don't know that the boat is going to be able to handle even that much power. I couldn't hold the engine at that boost level for more than a few seconds at wide open. The dyno would not hold it. I would want to see that everything was going to be OK. Everything looked good for the amount of time we ran it, but it will get held wide open in the boat for longer than that. It has a warranty and I want to be sure it is good to go.
I would have to run it in the boat wide open myself before I gave it to the customer with that much boost on 93 octane. Now if we put a little more octane in it, then no problem. We can actually go a little higher than that. But like I said, the main reason is that I sold the customer 1200 hp. Eddie |
I don't have BSFC numbers. The dyno isn't set up for a return style fuel system yet. I'm working on it, just haven't had a chance to get it done.

Just curious though, 130+ with 1075's! That is blazing for a V... 1200's! I can't even imagine! What was the reason for the engine swap? Beautiful boat!!! |

Did the customer not Merc power or was it price?? That is the boat. I had started building these engines for his Top Gun that he had before he bought the Skater. We were going to set them up around 900-950, since it was a Bravo boat. Just as I was going to start assembling them, he struck a deal on this boat and traded in the Cig. He had already paid for the engines, so he decided to up the hp and put them in this. That is the real reason he bought the Skater in the first place. He already had the engines handled. I built a set of 598's with Quadrotor Whipples (1193 hp) for his last boat. Eddie |

I compared the numbers at 4500 and 5000 rpm and the quadrotor beat it by 100 hp. When the 2.3 quad was running out of steam, this one kept pulling. But, it is larger (5 liter compared to 4.6 liter) The 5 liter also took longer to build boost, but it kept going when the 2.3 quad stopped. It basically moved the power up 500 rpm. I had to spin it a little harder to make the same power as the 2.3 quad. I have a sheet from an engine that I did with a 2.3 quad that made 1330 at 6100 RPM, whereas the 5 liter took 6600 rpm to make the same power at roughly the same boost. But, that was in a quick sweep. In the boat, I expect it to build boost lower since it won't be accelerating as fast as it did on the dyno. Eddie |

I heard Bruce had purchased a Skater. I assumed it was a cat. I love the 399V, however. The Spiderman boat was really a great running Super V, and I remember seeing this one at the Louisville show. Thanks Jon. We started the pull at 4000 rpm. The dyno would not hold it any lower. The brake temp was over 160 deg and climbing quickly. It is a Stuska brake and they say not to run it over 130 deg. I have only dynoed a few engines at this shop and this is by far the biggest. The brake should have no problem holding it, but something may be wrong with it. It should not heat up that fast. It is rated to hold 2000 ft lbs and like 1600 hp.
Eddie Thanks,...............NO disrespect to you, just amazed how many people cannot dyno the low side. Guys over here dyno it all including the diesel's on the very low side.
