We beat this subject to death on a thread about how much power could be made on 93.I have always run hard and like to run out front.I will spend more money on power than bling, paint, flat screens, and whatever else you can stick on a hull now days. I just get tired of all the gps keyboard racing that happens on this site.I have run roots style blowers for 20 yrs and they have never failed me!!I have also broke just about every other part that couldn't be broken.
I have a hard time fixing what is not broke. My 1471s @ 16% overdriven turning 6200 on a 600 cuin BM head engine will make 12psi.My next step will be 20%.Might be old school but come summer we shall find out.:drink:Richie will have his race boat 39mti converted pleasure with merc 1200hp and AJ is getting his 5.0s pump up to 8.0s. We always race hard and dont really care about GPS readings.
That said we play in Copeland water and Jrs new cat will be running 4- 4,000 hp turbines in a 50 custom cat.:eek:Can you hear that phone call to Elton Porter, insure what. My wife thinks were over grown kids and after Katrina and 2008 stock market I will take it to the next level..Lifes to short play hard!!! :ernaehrung004:

Like your attitude!! I'll boat with you guys!! I ran 1471s for 7 years. 5.0 is a nice up grade and gives you more hp and torque without changing anything else. But who cares. Whatever works for each individual. Have fun!!!!

5 liters of air is not nearly as good as 6.6 liters of air -period.Now the 8.2 or the 10 liter in a single style blower would be very sellable and make more horsepower than the current quad rotors. And the set up with the single blower would be simpler, cleaner to look at and most important have less parts to fail.

For like the 500th time. The 5.0 liter is driving the male rotor, the 3/5 rotor combo has a 1.66 rotor ratio. Drive the male rotor, just like the 2.3 and 3.3, and its a 8.3.

Example, drive the 3.3 just like the 5.0, and it's a 1.99 liter. Does a 3.98 quad rotor sound good?

So, when we drive the supercharger just like all the small blowers, it's a 8.3 liter. This is why it's physical dimensions are so big. It's a 8.3 when comparing to a 3.3. Therefore, it's the 8.3 is still 1.7 liters bigger than a quad 3.3.

More info, turning the 5.0 via the male rotor to 18,000rpm, the female rotor is turning 10,843. Now drive the female rotor to 10,843, the male rotor is then turning 18,000rpm. Same airflow, different input shaft speeds. Just like a rear end, outdrive, transmission, etc.

Try making 1500hp with your good ol' 1071, 18psi of boost, on 110 octane with comparble parts to the Sterling motors. Oh thats, right, it can't do it unless you inject 250hp shot of nitrous!

Then try running 18psi for 5 minutes at 15,000rpm input shaft speed with no methanol going through it. Oh thats right, would have to open clearances so much, you'd be hard pressed to get 18psi and lord knows you wouldn't have anywhere near the power.

why not a quad 8.3 would that make 2000 hp on 93? and how fast would that make a boat go? Its a big boat now:evilb:

I heard that is all you can get from the 5.0 is about 1350. One of our MTI buddies had a set of motors, he could not get enough power from the 5.0 so They put quad rotors and it made the difference. I was actually going to trade him my quad rotors for his 5.0s but I was told not to as they are only efficient up to 1350 HP. I have heard this serveral times. Some people swear the 5.0 put out more, some swear the quads are needed for over 1500 hp. I would love to know the correct answer. I read in Powerboat whipple now has a 10.0 for 1500 to 2000 hp. I would really like to know more about those.

Multiple people have already made 1600HP with them on 116 octane. 3.3 quads will actually make a bit more torque below 5000rpm as the smaller sc's seal better and are closer to turning in their ideal speed range. The 8.3 needs to be 10-15% under driven for 1100hp which is far below it's ideal range. Nobody has even come close to there potential yet. One ran the boost up to 24psi but just a short pull on the dyno, that was my mis-calculation. But made 1500hp @ 5000 with no real tuning done.

The 5.0/8.3 is better than the quad, thats why we built it. Thats also why we haven't sold a quad in 6 months.

Aren't you suppose to be sleeping, what the hell? A 16.6 liter quad huh, I'm working on that right now, but we all know Keith we'll be the first to ask if it's better than his 1471:grinser010: :ernaehrung004:
