Second Annual Sunny Isles Beach Offshore Challenge June 11th-14th, 2009

Sunny Isles Beach, Fl, January 15th 2009 – Offshore Super Series returns to Sunny Isle Beach, Florida for the 2nd Annual, “Sunny Isles Beach Offshore Challenge", June 11th-14th 2009.

The overwhelming success of last year’s event sets the stage for this year to be bigger and better than the inaugural event. This three day event will start on Friday morning when at least 50 boats are expected to make this year’s Bimini Ocean race. The Bimini Memorial Ocean Race allows for a great variety of boats to race “Old School”, to Bimini and Back. Gino Gargiulo & Larry Goldman will return with his Mercedes MTI Catamaran to defend the record time covering the 106 statue mile course in 1 hour and 44 seconds. Saturday brings a full day of activity to Haulover Park where the boats will stage from. The “ThunderBoat” Poker run will leave from Haulover Park at noon while the Offshore Super Series boats run Practice laps in the Atlantic Ocean. New for this year, Pro/Am Racing will be part of this year’s Offshore Challenge. Pro/Am Racing allows local boats that can meet the OSS rules to race in a safe and controlled environment. On Sunday the action starts at noon with Offshore Super Series racing in all classes. Viewing is excellent anywhere along the Sunny Isles Beach to the north end of the Haulover Inlet.

Offshore Events will host the entire Offshore Challenge Weekend with support from Offshore Super Series, The City of Sunny Isles Beach, and Miami Dade County.

For more information about racing in the event, being a volunteer or sponsorship opportunities, go to www.SIBOffshore.com and www.Offshoresuperseries.com

This event will benefit the Take Stock in Children Foundation

Default Thanks Ryan

Get ready. This is another opportunity for everyone to experience the thrill of the past. A safe and inexpensive way to race your boat in real offshore conditions in the same arena of the old Pros of Offshore.

So who's up for showing Gino the short way to Bimini and back?

Also for this year, Geico will be spending $500,000 to advertise the race on TV and radio within a 250 mile radius, so expect the pits and beach to be packed with race fans.

THANK YOU GEICO!

WOW! $500k!! That's a lot of money for a 2nd place trophy!!! They should spend $400k on advertising and give the other $100k to me and they can have the 1st place trophy!! I'll take a dive!

Ron,

Is that the right number? I thought it was a media buy out and could be as much as $1.5M for up to three weeks proceeding the event. Seems to be a very inexpensive way for additional sponsors to benefit from significant exposure... hint hint

I'm told the media buy has a value of $500,000. I guess Geico buys so much air time that they get a great deal.
