33 Cig. Cafe open vs. 36 Concept

Whats better and why. There are a few of them for very good deals out there and I'm thinking about picking one up for a good price so I can get my sit down go fast sooner.

TeamSaris 01-18-2009 03:37 PM

Never run the Cig but I have lots of time in a 36 Concept with 250 verados. Will run 60 mph. Ive run it in the ocean though real 4-6s without an issue. Real nice boat

Bryan Rose 01-18-2009 03:53 PM

One is a Cig and one is not....no comparison for the rough stuff...
Bryan

LapseofReason 01-18-2009 04:04 PM

Yes but the other is built off a Apache mold. And the Cig used Ocean Hawk for the mold. So if you did look at it for just the old school wave crusher hull I would say Concept has the upper hand.

Jupiter Sunsation 01-18-2009 04:15 PM

The 36 Concept is really a 33 since the last 3 feet is the bracket/engines. (and was called the 33 for years).

They are about equal in the customer service dept! :food-smiley-007:

bojoe2 01-18-2009 04:25 PM

I Ha A 33/36 Concept Love It Run It All Day Long On Jersey Waters

dreamer 01-18-2009 04:31 PM

concept is better newer.... verados intead of smokers

Shanghied Again 01-18-2009 04:52 PM

The big difference, The Cigarette OLD a lot of old wood underlay, old wiring and not as streamline. The Concept new design off a 33 Apache mold, wiring second to known and yes newer power. Hands Down concept

B37- That is one nice boat! Concept is on the short list for our next boat.

Jigsaw89 01-18-2009 06:39 PM

Concept would be my choice for a few of the reasons listed above.

bigjimtx 01-18-2009 06:43 PM

The Cig's/ Ocean hawks are the 01 Cig and 05 Ocean, the 05 has 275 Verados the 01 250 efi 2 strokes. The Concepts are all the same years more or less and a mix of 2 and 4 stroke power. Whatever one I buy is not going to be a fixer upper so hours will be low I don't want to have to rerig the whole boat, if I get a 2 stroke power boat I would sell the power and repower soon after buying.

More looking for input on the ride and function of the two, it seems the Concept has a little more room in front of the console with bigger seats, the Cig/Ocean has a nicer cabin But I will most likely never sleep in it. I don't fish much so fishing stuff don't matter.

verado swap is not just a switcheroo... depending on the platform mount at rigging and the lowers on the OBs it could get $$$$$$$$$$ plus the verado rerigg kit and the smart craft is like 4500.00

You don't have to run the smart craft and those funky throttles do you? I see them both ways or did they change it on the new ones ? Since I don't fish seems I don't need all those opps. you can get for trolling and stuff.

Spicy 01-19-2009 10:56 AM

I have owned a 33/36 Concept, had it for over 5 seasons great boat, would buy another....best friend had a 99 Ocean Hawk 33 during the same period, nice boat, larger cabin and liked the ride better then my Concept, it felt a little more solid and rode more level... have two other guys at my marina with 33 Ocean Hawk's also, one with 300 Promax's and the other with Evinrude E-Tec's, the 300 boat runs right at 70MPH and the ETec boat is really set up fo fishing......

my .02!!!!!

dreamer 01-19-2009 10:58 AM

not the throttles... just rigging, mounting and smartcraft brain and gauges

if the lower lengths dont match u need to swap lowers or remount transom bracket

LapseofReason 01-19-2009 11:09 AM

So $30-40k for a twin 300 Verado repower parts and labor If I got one that needed a repower ? I could do it myself but it would be my first OB repower so I would be learning the whole time and may just farm it out to save me the time.

Any repower I would do I think I would put some adjustable jack plates on so I had the ability to dial it in for all conditions.

Go to ALMERS in Delaware, they are the outboard repower specialists, grab a Salty Dog or go to there web site for info...

Dont quote me on this but I think the Verado 275 were around 18K each plus 5K to rig on the boat for twins, I believe that comes with all the smartcraft labor etc.... Please dont hold me to this but think this is very close to what I remember...

LapseofReason 01-19-2009 11:21 AM

I have seen 12.5 for them online. NEW.

Witch one is it, there are a bunch out there for under 100k with people begging for an offer 05,06,07 with 250-300 Verados. I don't see me spending over 80 for one and it would have to be nice with a good trailer. I know they cost a bunch more a few years ago but the market sucks its a buyers market now.

I plan tobe into a CC and a ZRC Donzi for around 200k by May.

I know we have talked about ZrC's in the Donzi forum. I like your plan. I got my ZrC and in a year or two plan on adding a CC.

handfulz28 01-19-2009 01:28 PM

Is there a big difference in actual hull weight between Concept/Cig/Ocean/Etc.

How about Suzuki's big block 300hp? So it's jap power...but at least it's black...:party-smiley-004:

LapseofReason 01-19-2009 01:31 PM

My wife would have a $hit fit if the only boat we had was a sit down 5 pass no head or padded hatch boat, but shes a good girl and lets me have plenty of guy days and she likes poker runs because she knows they will have bathrooms at the stops.:drink: We can use the ZRC to go to dinner and stuff but I wouldnt want to hang out on it all day.

In this market I will have 2 boats for a lot less than I spent on the Nortech.

wananewboat 01-19-2009 02:30 PM

This one looks very clean. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o25640-en.html

Nice looking boat but I need a real pump out head, I would have to see how much it would run to switch it out to a pump out. I wouldn't pay 102k for it either.

I don't know why they even put a porta potti in a boat. They are always listed as unused. Either dont put anything or put a real head in. I have had three boats that had them and took every one out to make space and the IRS never came to see if my boat had or if I used it when I did my taxes.

dreamer 01-19-2009 03:48 PM

look for a donzi 35 zfx... more comfort and no fish stuff... also large head in concole

I looked at those but none I have seen has a full width back seat. it's always the 2 person deal. The new ZFX is cool but kinda blows my 50-80k price I want to spend.

Terry Sobo had one and upgraded to a 38 said they are a little stern heavy with the notched transom.

I really like the older 34 Super Sport Scarabs but they are either junk or the people are nuts and think they are going to get 60k not the 25-30 they are worth

Gotcha. For a minute there I thought you were saying that you saw 300's for $12.5K online somewhere.

LapseofReason 01-19-2009 06:47 PM

No but I did see they put a set of the merc Captain plan 300's with 40 hours for 19k you would still need the other stuff but thats a good deal for them with warr.

Tom A. 01-20-2009 08:09 AM

Lapse, after losing an engine on a poker run last year and idling 3.5 hours in the Atlantic Ocean, I mounted a porta-poti in the ZrC. I had Typhoon glass in a flat spot under one of the deck hatches and mounted it there. I hope to never need it but just in case. In two to fours with no place to safely stand and pee, my crews' eyeballs were floating. The girls were troopers on that one!

LapseofReason 01-20-2009 09:09 AM

I hear 1 or2 ZRC's have a real head in them but I havn't seen it.

g5capt 01-20-2009 05:55 PM

Here is a CC Cig. on ebay. I saw the boat several months ago and tried to buy it without success. I need to get rid of one of mine before I can get another. Very nice boat though.
