46' 180mph Skater, "Lick This" at Havasu

On our first day at the lake, a week ago, the place was buzzing about some boat running around at 180mph. We launched and went looking and while heading south towards the dam, saw a monster rooster tail coming at us. As I pulled a u-turn, this 46' Skater went roaring by us. Finally caught up with him at the Bridge channel (he stopped and got out). Told me he had just got the boat, lives in Phoenix, twin 1,600 hp Sterlings, and was doing 160mph when he went by us. Boat has a center-enclosed pod with five seats inside, gullwing like doors on both sides, and a big flying frog with a long tongue on the side. Anyone know anything about this boat/guy? Even for Havasu, it was a damn radical boat!

   . . . wow . . . there is a pic of that boat being painted on the art of design website . . . way cool boat . . . that had to be some sight seeing that boat fly'n by

Turbojack 03-18-2002 12:19 PM

I know the dealer here in houston that I bought my boat from sold one like that about a year ago. I think that boat was moved up to Mead. I emailed him to see what, if anything, he knew about it.

Must have been something being out on water & seeing something like that coming by. Buddy & I always talk about what it would be like to be runing full out & having something like that come screaming by.

cigarette1 03-18-2002 01:35 PM

The boat was on display at the Los Angeles Boat Show.

SWEET .... owned by a young guy (<30):(

An enclosed canopy full pleasure boat

Uncle Toys 03-18-2002 01:40 PM

cigarette1 - it was at the LA boat show? Where? I missed it - damn!

cigarette1 03-18-2002 01:42 PM

It was outside, in front of the convention center on Figuroa, on the first weekend of the show. PhantomChaos had some pics posted of it. I think they left after Sunday.

Wildchild212 03-18-2002 01:44 PM

SHEEEESSHH
that thing is awesome. man would that be fun to go for a ride inor what!!!!!!!!!!!

HavasuCat 03-18-2002 05:41 PM

We talked to the owners friend at the boat show. He said they were hoping to see 190 mph in it. He said the boat cost 1.2 million, and the trailer was 125k. It was on a tilt up trailer and had escort vehicles with flashing lights with "wide load" signs.

thisistank 03-18-2002 05:47 PM

That must be a serious pain in the ass to haul that from Phoenix to havasu with "wide load" vehicles running in front and behind!!:D :D :D :D Let's see, one person in the front vehicle one in the back vehicle, one driving the truck, that leaves one seat for a female in the boat when you get there!:D :D

FunHome 03-18-2002 06:06 PM

Maybe he ought to bring it to the Lake of the Ozarks Shoot-out this year and see if he has enough to run with David Scott!
Did you guy's see in the new Powerboat that they (Powerboat) are helping sponsoring it this year! That is going to be awsome! They said whoever win's this year get's to be the Cover Boat in October!! And they dared anyone to see if they can out run David Scott!

IT's going to be BIG!

Turbojack 03-18-2002 06:09 PM

If I paid 1.2 mill for boat I do not think I would be the one to take it there. I would fly in, (by plane)and the boat would be there waiting for me.

pullmytrigger 03-18-2002 06:12 PM

Hate to be a kill joy, I really do but I hope for ALL our sakes this "30s" guy knows what the hell he is doing behind the wheel of that hotrod and doesnt make a meatball sandwich out of some family in a bowrider, even if he crashes all alone and doesnt involve anyone else the headlines would be bad...." Boat going 180 MILES PER HOUR crashes on local lake killing everyone aboard"!!!......"local residents in uproar"...........dont make headlines guys........

26scarab 03-18-2002 06:16 PM

Don't pick on us young guys ! Not all of use are stupid!:D

Although I DO feel stupid, I can't afford one of those , he must be doing something right . :(

thisistank 03-18-2002 06:21 PM

ahhhh, turboJack......Towing it there is half the fun!!:D ;)

Turbojack 03-18-2002 06:28 PM

Boat was bought out of dealer in Florda. Owner Chris Kellog paid 1.5 million. Boat runs on race fuel & yes it was at LA boat show.

46tomcat 03-18-2002 06:38 PM

dont think lick this would stand much of a chance against Daves boat lick this is a 46 foot where daves is 36 foot Lick this has #6 with skags Daves #6 skags our cut off for no drag and steers with a rudder Both boats have 1300 sterlings by running 116 octane fuel there rated at 1600 hp.Starting from a dead stop- would not be in lick this best interest TomCat with the same mtrs and drives is not the first out of the hole.I would think some of the turbine boats would have the best shot at dave or a smallercat.Just my two cents Tom

After being at the Lake for 20 years I feel confident saying that sheer top end will not prevail at the shoot out (unlike a kilo) acceleration will be a major factor because of the short distance.

PhantomChaos 03-18-2002 07:19 PM

Yep......

That LOTO sure is a small little puddle. Might run over MoAllen in his little canoe.

ssherman 03-18-2002 07:31 PM

Funny GUY:D :D :p

Your words LOTO boy! Heard you're gonna make the Havasu poker run? Kuel!

boot 03-18-2002 07:59 PM

THere is a boat in in NJ , Ruthless , an older 46 with 1300's and seats 5 open cockpit ,ran 177 mph on radar at the shoot out here ! He said they were doing bigger motors this year !

Why did they say they use escorts with that boat ? If it's on a tilt trailer ,thats the purpose , to raise one side ,kind of stand it on end , so that it is under 8 1/2 ' wide at the cross section . A 46' Skater is 12' wide . You don't need escorts till you are over 14'. I haul my 39' x 12' Ocean express cat all the time with no problems . Just have over size sign front and back and a flag on all 4 corners .

THat boat sounds cool though with closed canopy for 5 ! Probably air conditioned too ! Run rain or shine ! Now thats boating !

PhantomChaos 03-18-2002 08:21 PM

"Lick This"

The guy that owns this thing is experienced with high speed cat driving! His last boat was a 36 Skater that, I believe, ran in the 150-160 mph range! At one time, I think his old 36 had a record set at 179 mph?? It was at the poker run in Havasu last year.

pullmytrigger 03-18-2002 09:07 PM

24- Very good to hear.........the Dot com high performance boater scenario gives me the creeps........Doug

46tomcat 03-18-2002 09:18 PM

What was the name on his 36??

Nauti Kitty 03-18-2002 09:20 PM

Guys the boat ran 158 out of the factory it's first weekend on havasu. It's a big heavy ride with lots of extras but it will never see anything but the back of scott's boat. It's mighty fine none the less. NK

PhantomChaos 03-18-2002 09:27 PM

OSO God #2..................tell us about this one!!!

I don't know the name of the 36 he had, but it was a bad-ass boat!! It actually said "World Record 179.86 mph" on the side of the boat in small letters. It was all-white and had the numbers F3-69 on it.:)

thats dave scotts boat was the bud last year has it painted for a new bud product this year

Boating Fool 03-18-2002 09:49 PM

This 36 Skater with the record of 179 is David Scot "slow boat" Nauti Marine. It held the kilo record till he broke it with the Bud boat. A pic of natui marine is in powerboat- the one about boat lifts.

Damn if that doesn't look like a Planetman knock off. You sure this is not a race boat with 5 seats?

46tomcat 03-18-2002 10:06 PM

its the same boat plantet man had four seats same canopy with out gull wing doors.same sterling power

Miller 03-18-2002 10:20 PM

Tomcat, are you going racing this year with Russ or anything like that? When we spoke you mentioned that you might or might not do something like that.

I'm looking forward to seeing your boat again and meeting you face-to-face later this summer. I don't think I'll be at Skaterfest due to a wedding that conflicts, but I'm sure we'll meet at some point.

Have a good one.

46tomcat 03-18-2002 10:31 PM

Miller as of right now does not look good for raceing may buy some seat time somewhere will see what happens.Had a couple of deals but they went south only want to deal with the best so time will tell thanks tom
