Crane Cams is shut down
Just got a phone call from my engine parts supplier telling me the parts I've been waiting for will not be coming do to the Bank shutting them down today. Every day the bad news just keeps coming.
|
I'm not sure that's 100% correct. I understand they were just bought last week???? Got a call in lets see what comes of it...
|
Not entirely false. Appears their consolidating a few things based on some bank approvals falling through.
I'm glad to hear they're going to pull through. they are one of the best in the biz and would have been dissappointed if they were to close. So to answer your question production may have stopped temporarily but it sounds like they will be back up quick. I hope :ernaehrung004: |
I also put out a few calls and it does sound like there is someone buying them.
It is going to get interesting in the HP market with the economy the way it is. Keith Black engines has also shut down and are selling off everything. My brother knows of a deal that KB turned down just a few weeks ago. It would have moved KB to the midwest. |
That would suck , we have plenty of orders to get us through, but its definately off
|
i tried all day yesterday to get through to crane and the phone says they are closed or it is after hours. not good as i need 5 cams and lifters and springs
|
Their last day of business was last friday. Talked to a friend of mine that works there, and that's what he told me. Supposedly they went to do a "refi" and the bank refused to qualify them. They are working on a buy out from another bigger company, but, nothing's written in stone yet. They have a few irons in the fire. I was told that anything that was'nt already shipped out by friday, probably would'nt be shipped until this whole mess is straightened out.
|
Well, doesn't that just suck.
|
Looks like rmbuilder is going to get a lot busier.
|

Just when I need a set of 741's they close the door,, I feel like I am in the food line at a cheap wedding and the guy in front of me takes the last meat and taties!!! bummer !
|
Think I may have a 741 new in box never used along with lifters, valves, and springs if any one needs them.
Also have a 500 efi intake, throttle body, injectors, computer, and valve covers. Basically parts to make a 500 efi from a 502 mag. Never did the project. Just bought the parts new from Mark Boos at Precision Marine in Kenner, LA. Parts have been in a bedroom closet for a couple of years. Ron Cardinal [email protected] |

The deal blew up last friday with the new buyers because of the bank. Monday the staff was told to go home at 10am. The bank called late on Monday saying they may have a resolution to get the deal done. Crane people and the attorneys for the buyers were still meeting as of 6pm last night. I have heard this morning whether the deal has gone through or been shot down.
Crane is major core supplier and parts supplier to many companines in our industry. If they do shut the doors expect huge delays in billet cam purchases. |
Based on the feedback I'm getting there seems to only be a small chance they will actually shutdown for good. More down or "right" sizing. Cant expect suppliers to stay big when I'm sure sales have dropped considerably.
|
Let's all keep our fingers crossed that they pull through this delema.

Scoggins and Dicky in Tx might still have some.

Latest news:
Crane Cams says it plans to reopen after restructuring By GREG MIGLIORE A picture of Crane Cams says it could reopen in 30 days. Crane Cams says it could reopen in 30 days.Well-known cam shafts company Crane Cams shut down Feb. 24 for restructuring but says it plans to reopen, likely sometime in March. All of the company’s 280 workers were laid off, though about 25 remain to work on military contracts. The closure was in response to the global economic problems, said vice president Steve Leva. He said the Daytona Beach, Fla., company planned to reopen in as soon as a week, or it may take up to 30 days. Crane’s parts have become synonymous with performance and have been used by A. J. Foyt, the Wood Brothers, Bill Elliott, Richard Petty and many other well-known drivers. The 56-year-old company first made a splash at the 1961 NHRA nationals, when a dragster using Crane roller cams was piloted by “Sneaky” Pete Robinson to the Top Eliminator award, breaking records and upsetting more-established competitors in the process. Robinson’s success helped the company gain recognition throughout the 1960s as racing grew and the Detroit automakers thrived. In late 2006, Crane was acquired by Mikronite Technologies Group Inc., and Leva said $18 million has been invested in equipment since the acquisition. Earlier this week, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported that Crane was closing, though more details were not available at that time.
