Need 00-03 Diesel Truck
Been looking around for Diesel pick up. After my Avalnche was totaled seems a diesel is best way to go. Id like an Extra cab shortbed nr a 4 door short bed. Ford Chevy Dodge any of the sort. Looking to spend around 9K or so (rest of my cash is tied in that s.o.b. paint job. Anyway though id give this a shot
Thanks Mike |
Your best bet is the latest model 7.3L PSD Ford you can find in that vintage/price range.
2003 is the last year of the 7.3L PSD. Many 2003s actually have 6.0s and you will have to verify the engine. 2001-02 Duramax's had some fuel injector issues, which is an expensive issue, but the engines and transmissions are solid otherwise. ALL of the Dodge automatic transmissions SUCK of that vintage, but if you can find a rebuilt or upgraded tranny truck, that's a good deal too. The 12 and 24 valve Cummins are strong. Search: autotrader.com ebay.com searchallcraigs.com cars.com ...daily. |
Yea thats what i have been doing bri just though maybe some one saw or had something i missed
|
I was shopping in the same year range because they were at my price point at the time.
To me the best truck was the 7.3 Ford - the Lariat package is nice, and in the interior is better to me than the dodge. Your world, but I would get the long bed, it will provide more stability towing, and you will get used to it immediately.... Just my opinion... |
Im using it to plow my lot also, so somethign tolong would justr hinder me.
Thanks -Mike |
I have a 2000 ford f250 crew cab lariat 4x4 diesel that i'm going to sell. It was a one owner pickup with 118k miles just traded on a new one. I've been driving it for last couple weeks seems very tight. Its dark blue with tan bottom and tan leather interior. Let me know if this might wok for you.
|
If you buy Ford get the 7.3. Best diesel in your price range is the 12 or 24 valve Cummins and they are cheap to hot rod and can make stupid amounts of hp/tq. 12 valves are hard to find though...

Look for the 2000 vintage F250/Excursion..that year had the forged 7.3 90% of the time. You simply couldn't kill that motor.
|
Thanks just need to find something to buy

I have an 01 F-250 4x4 7.3 Im rebuilding, just passed inspection will be ready next week. Dark green with tan on the bottom. 145k, I was going to keep if for myself but I bought a black dually, Im going to keep it instead. The 01 is a super clean truck all we had to do was put a fender, door, and bed on it. Let me know if you want some pictures. The deals are on the light hits, as long as you dont have to start replacing coolers and stuff on the front.

Rottiguy, you don't have a tailgate for a 2000/2001 black & tan Lariat LE do you? I could use one.

I actually have my tailgate being fixed as we speak, but would still take a spare.
The entire Lariat LE stripe package is around $850 from Ford. OUCH! You can also order individual panels' stripes though. I have a 2005 FX4 grill and Harley headlights on mine, as well as a Front-Runner bar. I also converted to HID headlights. If you come across a set of OEM Ford SuperDuty foglights, I'll take them quickly too. My 2000 did not come with them; available 2001+. |

I will have an extra dually flare off the black 350, I bought a new bed, a flare is about 600 bucks new. I bought a new bed for 650. The trick is going to be the LE stripes and stuff.

Hey Frank, if you decide to sell the burban outrite, let me know first. Does it have the cargo doors?? What gear? hopefully the 3.73. What color?? Looked at an 01 last week at a local chevy dealer, and it was exactly what I wanted till we opened up the hood. It had the 8.1 For a tow vehicle it was probably good, but for an everyday driver, the fuel mileage'll kill ya. I told a friend of mine that I passed on it, and he went there the next day to buy it just for towing his enclosed race car trailer, and it was already sold. He's looking for a 2500 too.
Thanks, Frank You will not regret owning a 8.1L. If overall fuel mileage is a concern, pick up a used Mazda 626 like I did for a few years. |

Thanks, Frank Hmmm...this is a possibility.. It has the 3.73 and the barn (cargo) doors. The barn doors are really good for trailering cause you can actually open them. As far as gear, it's the LT package so it's basically has everything, its the loaded verison. The truck has been a great vehicle and the only thing I've had to do to it over the years is replace a battery, tires and regular oil/trans changes. I've been running Mobil 1 since 2005. I'm getting between 14-16 mph. My friend had a burb with the 8.1 and he was getting 8-10. Just shot these pics moments ago, haven't even cleaned it. :) |

Ill look for some excursions today and let you know, I havent found a great deal on one yet, but maybe I can find one near you. Where do you live? I mostly shop in the southeast.
I'm looking for a 3/4 ton suv, prefer a diesel or big engine. Same way you look at it. Every dime I spend on the tow vehicle is less I have to spend on the boat. I have a company vehicle to drive every day, this one will be used sparingly, a couple thousand miles a year. Let me know if yo find anything. |
Do my best im on the hunt as well as you can tell by the thread. Hope i get something soon, the 1/2 isnt really cutting ot

I was in the market for a Diesel Ex/250..even considered the V-10...I ended up with a 05 Escalade 6.0AWD (345/400LQ9).This thing scoots for a pig.80mph hit it and it will put you back in the seat.More HP/tq than the V10 and much better MPG.Not the diesel mind you but then again it is very comfy to daily.
I just needed it to pull my 26' cabin(8k loaded)...it does it with surprising ease.Even the wet steep ramp we put in was nothing to yank the boat out. |
