I was in the same boat (pun intended) when my dodge /cummins got totaled. I shopped around and chose the chevy 2500 duramax/allison. It's definately worth a look. I was sure i was going with the powerstroke until i drove the duramax.:D

GO FOR THE F350

Thuderdan,

I have a 2000 crewcab shortbox f-350 w/ a V-10. Went with the V-10 cuz my step-brother is an engineer at Ford, and he told me the diesel wasn't worth it unless I went over 300,000 miles.

I love the V-10, lots of power, the short box is nice too, I think it is easier to manuever with the boat in tow. Lariat pakage is very nice if you can get it, leather is easier to clean than cloth!

For all of you that responded, thanks and for those who have a 350, how is the ride in comparision to the 250? I also heard that the crew cab with the regular bed is rides a bit somoother due to the longer wheelbase?

Vern 03-24-2002 09:36 PM

Thunderdan,

Rode in all of them, I couldn't tell a difference between them. Also, forgot to mention I have a 3.73 rearend, V-10 still pulls like no tomorrow. My brother has the 4.30 and I don't think it makes a difference except for gas mileage.

The 350 is a little stiffer, but its still a soft ride relatively speaking. Its not stiff enough to make me want the 250. They're both pretty close. Face it, 3/4 & 1 ton trucks are not about smooth rides, might as well get the beef :D

Indy, if you use the same logic as you use with an engine for your boat, wouldn't you choose a GM product. You wouldn't have a Ford engine in your boat would you? When Motor Trend tested the Ford, Chevy and Dodge the small block 6.0 liter out pulled Ford and Dodges V-10's. You do the math.

Thunderdan, Mine is the 8' bed with the crew cab. Rides great, gotta pick your parking spaces though

ThunderDan, I just bought a 2000 F-350 XLT dually with the V-10 and 4.30 gears. It's a crewcab with short bed. So far we love it. The V-10 is the smoothest engine I have ever driven. Very powerful and much quieter than a Powerstroke. I also was actually looking for a diesel but diesel prices are higher in my area and there is also quite a bit more cost involved in maitaining a deisel. So, after driving the V-10, I was sold!!

Unfortunatly I hav'nt had a chance to tow with it yet. But it should be a towing machine!

Bowtie - I've owned Chevy products before, thats why I own a Ford now. I'm not a brand fanatic and could basically care less which brand I own, (ability to do the math not withstanding  ) Its just that Fords have been better for me. BTW...isn't it the 6 litre the engine that everybody was complaining about on OSO not too long ago?
