f-250 or 350
I need some guidance from all of you that have f-250/350's. We are looking to get a work truck that is going to do a bit of hauling of sand, concrete etc as well as occasionally tow my 10k boat. I am leaning toward the v-10 and the 4.30 gears, crew cab but I My work is buying the truck so it needs to resemble a work truck so the lariot is out but looking at the xlt. I am curious what is the difference between the 250 and the 350. This truck is going to be more of a daily driver, probably 4-5 days out of the week, a work truck maybe one day, and tow truck maybe 15-20 times per year. Looking for some input from you ford truck guys on what you truck is, what power and rear, why you decieded to get the truck you did.

Thunderdan , try FORD-DIESEL.COM I have a 250 diesel lariat and it is awesome theres not much difference between 250 and 350 but since it would be and everyday work truck I would say 350!!

It is going to be more of an everyday driving truck. Not really a work truck. Most of it's use is going to be getting my fat ass around.:D

The Ford F- Series F250 and F350 are great trucks by far my favorite. I would recommend going to your Nearest Dealer or do some surfing the Net for information. Difference between F250 and F350 are strong frme and suspension on the F350. You may want to get a brochure on ratings for both of these models. The V10 is a great motor. Very strong with alot of torgue. If u are planning on doing alot of travel with it lok into the Diesel. My Father has a F250 with the Powerstroke Motor and he loves it and so do I. The race Team I work with has a F350 Dually with the Powerstroke motor in it. Best advice is to go to a dealer and check it out your self. Good Luck with your decision. Dennis P Tracey |
I've been truck shopping, so I might have a few answers. It looks like the 350 has a heavier duty rear axle. The rear axle for the 250 is 6084 lbs, the 350 is 6830 lbs for singles, 9750 lbs for dually. (I'm not sure what these ratings mean). Payload for the 250 is 3440 lbs, for the 350 it is 5455 (regular cabs). Everything else seems to be the same, except you can get the 350 as a dually.
By the way, after comparing the 3500 to a F350, I've decided on the F350 dually w/ diesel. |
There is not any difference in the amount of weight it will tow .I test drove both and decided on the 250 simply because it seemed to ride smoother but last post had good advise test drive both with an open mind.

it is all suspension - it's only about $800 more to get a 350 vs a 250 but some people don't like the ride - personally I can't really notice a difference.

I would op for the diesel. My F250 handles everything I throw at it just fine and the ride is great.

Chevy/GMC have the highest towing capacity there is both diesel and gas 8.1 22000 total cap. it is worth a look

You might want to use the same logic on your truck as when you would be choosing an engine for your boat...the bigger, the better. I've had a 250 and presently have a 350 PSD. The 350 rides fine (actually softer than the 3/4 ton Dodges I've been in). The diesel sounds stupid though, I miss the rumble of the V-8, but it gets better gas mileage, the gas is cheaper (at least here in CT) and towing with the PSD is a no brainer. I'd go for the 350 again if I was given the choice. I use it as my daily driver and tow vehicle.
