Well guys and gals.... my starboard motor finally bit the dust Saturday when we were out in the bay. HP500 with 385 hours. Motor has always had a slight tick, but good oil pressure and excellent water temps.... but this time she wouldnt rpm over 4100 rpm and after 5 mins of trying a few different things in the bay, I decided to shut it down and double check fuel pressure. When I brought it back to an idle, it lost oil pressure. I shut that engine off, and when I raised the hatch, oil had blown out of the valve cover all over the flame arrestor and the intake of the motor. We added a half quart and fired it back up. It would only hold about 25 psi of pressure at an idle, so I decide to limp it back to the trailer. The only problem is .... we were 5 miles into the bay by now. So I got it up on plane and kept both motors at 3k. About 1 minute into the return trip, she lost rpm and died. I raised the hatch and tried to start it.... and BAM, it was locked up.
What a bummer!!
So now for the re-power.... I just want to get it done before the 4th of July. This morning we pulled both motors out and tore them down to simply long blocks. I am taking them to the machine shop Tuesday morning.
